I've always considered Mr. Charlton Heston the most overrated actor of his time. He was always the same character, in my opinion. If the marquee read Ben Hur, The Ten Commandments, or Planet Of The Apes, I always saw the line beneath, "Starring Charlton Heston as . . . Charlton Heston!"

Alas, the man had charisma. Damn did he have charisma. And it is for that, and not for his politics or ego, that I say . . . Godspeed, Charlie. We knew you well, but not as well as we would have liked.

Mr. Charlton Heston, dead at 84.

Charlton Heston was a box-office draw in the 50's and 60's.

Acting wise, he was formula and one-dimensional.

But he filled the screen and was larger than life.

Requiescat in pace . :)

I loved him in so many movies, Ben Hur was my favorite. He seemed larger than life and when I was a little girl he seemed to be the hero every man should be, or so I thought. He had a presence about him, you could not ignore him on stage or film.

Sigh, were have all the heroes gone?

I have both Ben Hur and The Ten Commandments on DVD and would love to find The Greatest Show On Earth. While he may not have been the greatest actor, I think he was in the top 10. It is sad to see an icon die...it reminds us of our short time here.

As Willie said, he wasn't an actor, he couldn't act, except one role. He did, however have presence.

I would never have called him a great actor, that accolade goes to many better before and after him.

He will, though be remembered long after many of them.

As instructed, now maybe we can prise the over-rated gun from his hand.

RIP

And as the Supreme Court seems to be on the verge of affirmining the 2nd Amendment position that he held all his life, it seems ironic that not only is he gone, but that due to Alzheimer's he wouldn't even know that he had won. Yes, Requiescat in pace , Mr. Heston.

Wow. I hadn't heard that yet. He'd mainly worked for the NRA for some years now.

A number of movie stars 'play' themselves. John Wayne comes to mind. Also Clint Eastwood to some extent. Keanu Reeves as well.

R.I.P. :rose:

His screen persona always made me think of a particular type of lovable geek, the kind who takes the world seriously and is effectual, and whom you have to respect and take seriously in return, but can't help doing so with an ever-present grin. Not exactly the effect he strove for, I imagine, but it's an appealing personality type and one that adds value to society and to those fortunate enough to associate with the individual.

I'm not a person of faith, but I'll say I hope this Moses gets to enter whatever promised land he wished for. :rose:

He's dead :( No more parting of the sea, No more stone tables or burning bushes. No more chariot races in the forum. Oh well.

R.I.P. dude.
