Ernie Coombs passed away from a severe stroke today.
he has been a canadian childrens television personality for many years.
he, as well as, Mr Rogers and Sesame Street were the favorite shows of my own 2 children when they were growing up.
he will be missed.

I heard about that.
This week just keeps getting worse and worse.

My dad got his autograph for me when I was little. He used to come into our restaurant to eat sometimes.

Goodbye, Ernie

Casey and Finnegan are in mourning and the tickle trunk is closed.

This made me cry and i don't have a clue who he is.
I'm so saddened by the loss of another good human being, though, another person committed to bringing light and life into the lives of children.

I think i'm way too off-balance emotionally to be here tonight.
Good-night, all.

Mr. Dressup (real name, Ernie Coombes) was well known to millions of Canadian children for the same reason Fred Rogers of Mr. Roger's Neighborhood is in the U.S. He recently retired just before Mr. Rogers did likewise, suffered a massive stroke yesterday and died today.

The two famous Children's programmers were linked throughout their lives. Fred Rogers tried to sell American television executives on a new type of children's program but couldn't get to first base with the idea. He came up to Canada to try his luck and they agreed with him. He started his show on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) and was very successful. An old friend from the U.S. came with him and worked behind the scenes. That man was Ernie. When Mr. Rogers returned to the U.S. with proof of the success of his idea, Ernie Coombes took over the show in Canada and became Mr. Dressup. Both enjoyed very long and successful careers and remained close friends.

He will be missed by millions of children who grew up learning about life and manners from him.

Thank you.
He looks like he was a gentle and noble man, one who knew when to laugh and how to give a hug.

Definetly was a gentle man. From what I heard he allways took time to talk to kids and never talked down to him.
