okay, i'm contemplating asking for an mp3 player for x-mas... but i have a few questions, just to confirm. first of all, do you have to buy the songs from a site, or can you use stuff already on your computer??? and secondly, any reccomendations on good brands and whatnot, or any info at all for that matter on choosing the right one? thanks!

Rosebud, I have a MuVo made by Creative and it's available in the states at WalMart. It's a 256 mb and holds around 4 hours of music. Runs on a single AA battery and I get maybe 10-12 hours out of 1 battery. Really tiny, a little bit bigger than a pack of gum. My sons showed me how to copy music from the computer over to it, as all you have to do is plug it into a USB connector. They even took some of my CD's and copied some of the songs that I like onto the computer as MP3 songs and then I can copy them to the little MP3 player.

Hey if a computer novice like me can do it, you can too! I'm sure there's other players out there, but I'm satisfied with this one. It's plenty loud enough to use in the club on the treadmill and exercise bike. When you are tired of listening to the songs on it, you just delete all or some of them and copy others over instead. I think this 256 mb model was around $65.

You can see it HERE

I've got an iPod Mini and love it.
Holds 4g of music, about 1000 songs and uses iTunes as its uplink program. Used it on my Windows machine before switching over to my Mac Mini Computer (which I adore too).
Hubby has a 15g iPod and loves his too.
They're easy to use, can set up seperate playlists and can use any music in most formats (except the ogg vorbis stuff, which I have to convert). I dl music from CD's, data disks, the iTunes Music Store, Limewire and via bit torrent, doesn't have a problem with any of it at all.

They tend to run on the pricier end of MP3 players but I feel its worth it. Very sturdy and with soooo many accessories.

if you get the ipod, you can also get this spiffy add-on. :>

we discussed this a while back. this might give you some helpful information.

I have a 6 gig pink iPod, they rule :) I think the 20 gb ones are better though, I have already filled mine up!

I have a Packard Bell Funkey with 256mb but you can get em with bigger storage.

- Putting the music on it is easy you put it in the usbconnector, then the computer recognizes it.
- It gets it's own folder but don't delete the data it has cuzz that has to stay there.(My tip is to make a folder to where you have already copied the music you want on the player that way you can just copy the whole folder and put it in the mp3player folder.)

You don't have to buy music on a site you can download a grabber that can rip the music from your cds and convert it into mp3 or wma. And any music you already have that's mp3 or wma will work on it.

Hope you get it it's really ideal and so much better then a discman which is a giant compared to the mp3player.
