I used to never have any trouble, but I got a new computer, and apparently there are some compatibility issues with mozilla and adobe. I can't get mozilla to open any .pdf files. I've tried everything I know, reinstalling both aps, rebooting, I've searched the help files of both aps, and read a bunch of a crap I don't understand.

Apparently some others have had trouble with vista and mozzilla and adobe as well.

any suggestions?

Have you tried saving the PDF to your desktop (or wherever), then opening it from there?

Do the PDFs open in Internet Explorer?

Have you tried another reader, like Foxit?

IE is EVIL and I won't open it if I don't have to. I don't want to use another reader, I want to use adobe, I guess I will if I have to, because I don't want to have to stop using mozilla, but all the pdf's automatically d/l into adobe.

By trying IE w/ Adobe and another reader w/ Firefox, you will help us narrow down which program is causing the problem (Adobe or Firefox). Sometimes you have to try different combos to troubleshoot.

Which version of Firefox do you have (under Help>About...)?

What about the saving the PDF and opening it from your desktop or wherever? Does that work for you? If not, it's either a Vista or Adobe issue. If so, it's a matter of Adobe and Firefox not playing well together.

And in the end, you may have to be a little flexible, at least for a time. If, for example, Foxit works with Firefox, and you find it faster and easier overall, why not use it, at least for now?

I have mozilla ver 3.1

I was able to open the pdf from the desktop, and I'm pretty sure adobe works on IE

I think it's a vista/mozilla/adobe thing

I never had this trouble on my other computer, which had XP

and according to the mozilla boards, others have had trouble with vista as well

I'll try foxit, but how do I get the pdf files to automatically use that program? I know there's a way but I forget how to set it

Probably its a Vista thing. Vista sucks. Microsoft is ALREADY workin on its replacement.

You need to go into Windows Explorer - Tools - Folder Options, and then the File Types tab, to re-assign the default PDF program to Foxit.
I'll say i'm on Firefox 3.0.1 and XP pro...no problems viewing PDF's.

Have you turned off User Access Controls in Vista? That could be the problem.

actually, i just tinkered with the settings in mozilla, but setting it to open the pdf using adobe directly instead of trying to opening it into mozilla and it seems to have made it worked...

but how do you change the user access controls in vista?

Vista kinda has pissed me off, Ive had trouble finding stuff when I used to know where it was

If those are the only problems you've had, you're damn lucky!

I had so many problems with Vista that I downgraded to XP. My Vista-built laptop didn't like that at all, so I had to switch to Linux (Ubuntu). There were a few snags at the beginning, but I've actually never been happier with an operating system.
