Wow, I watched, The Siege, last night for the first time, ya know, one of those, hey that looks kinda good, but I just never got around to watching kinda movies. Anyway, I couldn't help but draw the parallels between that movie and WTC. From the way life changed in NYC (the US), to even the quote, "Let's roll", this time said by Denzel.

The struggle between feeling safer, and fewer rights.
More power to the government to fight terrorism vs. individual rights and freedoms.

The profiling done by the FBI vs. persecution of Arab descended citizens and non-citizens.

The frustration for all, in the struggle for the Fed's switching from
reactionary police tactics and policy, and citizens living in fear.

Look, I know this was just a movie, but still, I think it is very illustrative of how life has changed here in the States.

One thing the movie made me think of....I am so happy that we have the 2nd Ammendment.

As this was just a quick gloss over of the movie and the various parallels, I would like to hear others opinions.

<shudder> Sorry, I was thinking again of the "Let's roll", comment.

Ok, fine. Maybe I should make the post more outrageous.

"Profile them all and let God sort them out!", or something like that.

"The Siege"..

Remember, it's only a movie...like "Sum of all fears," and "Red Dawn." Thank the founders for the 2nd Amendment, Fucking Aye!

Oh, I know it's only a movie. I was just stating the comparison's. I picked this movie because I watched it last night for the first time. And the "Let's roll" comment just...well, it was just weird.

Hey, thanks for responding!

What the fuck is the second amendment?

The right to bear children?

Don't feel too ignored, 8ball. I just haven't seen the movie yet. I did notice that there is a big focus on Denzel Washington flicks this week. I saw John Q last night on Starz.

Thanks Rambling. I understand, I wasn't overly worried about it. I know how alot of boards work and with them, unless one says something completely inflammatory, one just does not illicit much response. ;)

Chilled, so...what is your example of Koresh supposed to mean, exactly? For or against that specific Right?

Yea, guns are cool. You cannot own them enough.

I'm just anti-bullets. That's all.

Ok, I understand where you're coming from....now.

Yeeehaaahh!

I really haven't seen "The Siege", as Denzel is an overated actor. I'm also kinda boycotting movies right now with all the, "Not in our name" celebrity bullshit going on. I will check it out in the future, it sounds like a parallel, along with "The Peacemaker", but George Clooney keeps me from seeing that too. I guess i'll just stick to "Patton" and "Red Dawn" for now.
Keep your powder dry.

Those are both great movies, LC.

I know what ya mean about some of Hollywood. Bleah.

most people are fine with profiling as long as it doesnt involve them. (althought they often say otherwise)

I've noticed the same people who think racial profiling is ok, are also the ones who don't want race to be a consideration for jobs or school admitance. they say "race should not be a factor" been then when it comes to crime they start quoting all these statistics. hmmmmm..........

Short memories.....

Nobody seems to remember the OKC Bombing. After that, every militia in the US was hit by the FBI/NSA/CIA, but that was okay to others, 'cause they wuz white.
There isn't any thing racial with investigating the enemy profile of people that want us dead, except to the pro-quota crowd. You can look at any remark here on the Lit about people's profiles of rednecks, totally racist, but that's okay 'cause they wuz white.
If the WTC killers were white bikers, I'd expect to get yanked, it's part of living in a society. Bikers get pulled over for 1960's biker flick stereotypes by cops that used them for training films, life goes on.
(An illegal alien needs to be processed and shipped home if they have no pending paperwork in process, we don't need any more criminals.

they where profiling a group activity (membership in a militia) not a group trait (skin tone, eye shape) people who join the same groups probably think more alike than people who happen to be born in or decendent from a whole corner of the world.

"If the WTC killers were white bikers, I'd expect to get yanked, it's part of living in a society."

thats exacty the type of statement I was talking about. I don't think you'd be ok with it at all. You say "life goes on" How do you feel if an equally qualified black person gets the job you wanted *just becuase they're black* due to affirmative action? Is it just "life goes on?" or do you feel that an injustice has been done?
