Okay, these don't have to be on topic movies but just dominant male type movie characters that have struck you as really cool in some way.

I'm gonna have to go with Hannibal Lecter from Silence of the Lambs.

Also, Viktor from Underworld.

I like both of those, but my new favorite has to be The Phantom of the Opera in the movie of the same name.

Viktor struck me as a bully boy with ego problems...I like Lucien better. All that patience, determination and intelligence, not to mention a strong enough will to keep a pack of werewolves under control.

Even if it's corny I gotta go with John Travolta's character in Swordfish as well. That man didn't miss a trick or a beat in getting what he wanted and there is just something yummy about determination and intelligence.

Lucien, yes, definitely.

Still can't think of a better one than David Bowie's character, though.

The way he teased and taunted her throughout the whole film... set her tasks, tried to make them impossible.. did things like speeding up the clock so she wouldn't be able to finish in time (totally unfair!!) And he was very sexual throughout the whole movie. He totally wanted her, and totally wanted her to fail against him.

Jennifer Connelly's character was also suggestive of a submissive, in my opinion. She was child-like and sweet-tempered, but also fiesty and strong-willed. In the begining of the movie she's romanticizing the idea of the Goblin King and then comes to realize that he's not what she imagined he'd be at all. He's sexy and clever, but unfair and cruel.

A timeless classic, and totally droolworthy. Makes me want to dig it out of my movie collection and watch it again tonight!

Hmmm, I never thought of it like that. Of course, I probably haven't seen the movie in a decade, and my memory is nothing to be proud of. I'll have to give it a rent.

I wish with all of my heart and soul and jedi powers that Viggo Mortensen is a Dom... and that he has my address ...and hes just biding his time to call me because hes busy building our dream dungeon.

Hes the strong manly daddy type that demands respect and has plenty of creativity to execute a plan of action *nod*

Very good points, and you reminded me to add it to my list of "must get a copy" movies!

Takeshi Kitano in Fireworks or Zatoichi or anything except Kikujiro.

Has this fantastic Clint Eastwood stoic fuck-you-up-out-of-nowhere zenlike cool. Yum.

Also does the predator-disguised-as-prey thing really well.

Bring it over, I'll have draggie make popcorn!

In the psycho manipulator category I vote Ben Kingsley in Sexy Beast.

I also liked Robert Mitchum's Max Cady in Cape Fear better, not as over the top creepy as DeNiro, but really unsettling and ewwy.

Yes, Ben Kingsley's Sexy Beast was alright..
I like Humphrey Bogart and his ginourmous cranium, and his consistently paternal (patronizing?) roles. "When I slap you you'll take it and like it!"

Marquis, I'm not sure what makes the Phantom a dominant's role, care to e'splain?

Oooo, nice. My favorite evil flaming svengali type is Claude Rains in Deception.

(Deception, duh, not Notorious)

The Phantom wants to control things. He uses his music to control Christine. He uses threats to control the Opera Company. He's real big on control.

Ok, I'm gonna have to see that again.

All I can think of, that hasn't been mentioned yet is Wolverine from The X men. *sigh*

I'm with Rosco.

Henry Higgins has had my subbie li'l heart since I was twelve.
Also, James Spader in "The Secretary". Obscure little softporn flick disguised as plain old art-drama.

Has anyone mentioned Harrison Ford in almost anything? Nicely casual Dom as Han Solo, Self-absorbed Dom as Indiana Jones, Competant Confident Dom as The Pres in AFO.

Another favorite of course: Mickey Rourke, 9.5 weeks.

Viggo Mortensen as Lucifer in The Prophesy
George Clooney as Seth Gecko in From Dusk till Dawn
Ben Mendelsohn as Jerry in True Love and Chaos
Antonio Banderas as Ricky in Tie me up Tie me down
Christopher Walken ...period...
