I am all by my lonesome this weekend and looking forward to peace and quiet.

So, I can rent some movies.
No Disney movies!
No Nickoldeon!
No Goosebumps, Powerrangers, or Scooby Doo!

So, what five movies should I rent?

Keep in mind, that new releases are definitely out as I want 5 movies for 5 dollars for 5 days.

New releases are exempt from the special.

Casablanca
African Queen
The quiet man
The misfits
Everything about my mother

I just watched "Firefly" with Kevin Costner, it was pretty good, it's a ghost story with a great ending.

fear and loathing in las vegas ... if you like something a bit weird but lots of fun

the third man or citizen kane (my two fav black and white films)

i can't think of many others (im awful at picking videos at the store)

actually the others is good but might count as goosebumps :)

My suggestion

Talk marksgirl into a web cam show!

5

Bicentenial Man - sweet and long and quiet and romantic

Moulin Rouge - sweet and fast and romantic and sad

Amelie - mischeviously good.

god, what a bunch of chick flicks.... hmmmm...

Pitch Black - sci fi action horror thing with Vin Diesel, much higher quailty performance than XXX or Fast & Furious

The Tao of Steve - funny, not appropriate for kids, I think, plus a very cool soundtrack.

Wow no Disney that would be nice. Sometimes I want to toss Lilo & stitch into the trash.

If you're looking for a laugh, pretty much any Kevin Smith movie,
Clerks, is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. You may also want to check out Barbershop with Cedric the Entertainer, I think that movie comes out this weekend, but I'm not sure.

Sleepy Hallow
Bladerunner
The Crow
Monty Pythons Meaning of Life
LA Confidential

good Kevin Costner movies...now there's an idea for a thread...

add Revenge to my previous list

I think these are the only 2 of his that I liked.

The Thin Man or any of that series. Old, b&w, and funny.
Hope Floats
Only You
Any of the Die Hard movies
Murder In the First is an excellent movie
If you like Kirstie Alley, try Sibling Rivalry
Immortal Beloved
The Mists of Avalon is good for Arthurian legend from a female point of view
Shanghai Noon is awesomely funny
The Full Monty is worth a look
Dogma is the best of the Kevin Smith movies

Just a few ideas from my own collection. :)

Regarding Henry is a touching movie and worth looking for. Stars Harrison Ford and I think Annette Bening.

you HAVE to see Fandango...it's his best....I also liked No Way Out...but after that he's pretty much done

I have not seen Fandango, I forgot about No Way Out that was pretty good too.

Raintree County
Butterfield 8
High Society
The Philadelphia Story
To Catch a Thief

and

Giant

Anything with Cary Grant or Liz Taylor.

I love old movies and old musicals. Maybe not at all what you had in mind though.

I don't know if you get cable/satellite or not, or you maybe have seen these already, but here are a few of my fave movies. I don't know if they are on DVD or not.

"Meet Joe Black"
"What Dreams May Come"
"Bicentennial Man"
"Still Breathing"

Be forewarned, the above are not lighthearted fare (okay, "Still Breathing" isn't as heavy as the others and "Bicentennial Man" is funny at first and not terribly heavy at the end).

"Blast from the Past" is also one of my faves, and is a more lighthearted and funny.

Yeah. Blast From the Past is a great movie. I'm a Fraser fan. :D
Pleasantville is another good one. I think the boy in that one is the dude in Spiderman. Not sure though.

The Elisabeth Shue reference reminds me of an oldie: Adventures in Babysitting.
