Name a movie that you watched that was a horrible remake of the original movie. My nomination goes to "The Day The Earth Stood Still". Terrible remake, I prefer the original any day.👠👠👠Kant

But, I can name dozens or remakes that totally suck compared to the original. :)

I think the remake of "War of the Worlds" really sucked. The original was pretty hokey, but fun, but the remake was just dumb.

Uh...let's see...

remakes...

Fantastic Four, actually both were pretty hokey, but the remake was even hokier.

Godzilla, I liked the original.

Red Dawn, the original was much better than the remake.

Superman / Man of Steel, actually liked the remake better, although the original was truer to the comic book series.

and let's not forget...

Batman in all it's glory of remake after remake. Holy Smokes Batman!

Dredd / Judge Dredd - the first one was better even though it was Sly Stalone in the lead.

Star Trek - ????? I don't know what to think. They have remade 2 now. ?????

Spiderman / The Amazing Spiderman - WTF?

Total Recall - I couldn't make it through the remake.

Someone always thinks they can do it better and the paying public suffers.

Add to the "Oh, hell no, they didn't" list:

Invasion of the Body Snatchers

Walking Tall

The Poseidon Adventure

The Pink Panther (even Steve Martin's comedic genius couldn't pull this one off)

One of the only movie remakes I've ever seen that was done as well as the original was The Incredible Journey.

.

I still can't make my mind up about Lolita. Both versions had their good points.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
3:10 to Yuma
War of the Worlds
Flubber
Shaft
Parent Trap

Just about any cartoon that they redid with people.

I'm trying to think of a single remake I've liked as much as the original and I can't come up with one. I'll add

Clash of the Titans

I loved the original cheesy version. Young me thought the cursed demigod guy in the swamp was kind of sexy? I wanted him and Andromeda to get together.

I can think of a couple of book adaptations where I liked the second adaptation better than the first. Peter Jackson's "Lord of the Rings" vs. the Ralph Bakshi version, or BBC "Day of the Triffids" (okay technically that's a mini-series) vs the earlier film version. But I'm not sure either of those really count as "remakes".

John Carpenter's "The Thing" is pretty good but I haven't seen the 1951 original so I can't say whether it's better than that.

How about all these genre switches? Movies to TV, TV to movies?

21 jump street
Dukes of Hazzard
Dragon Ball
Rush Hour
Psycho/bates motel
The Hannibal TV show
And I haven't seen it yet, but I'm putting it here: Lethal Weapon.

Remake that was better than the original : Red Dragon (yes I know it's Hannibal Lector)

And how many times are they going to remake Hulk? I have seen the same movie twice with completely different casts. WTF?

That was my #2 remake choice that sucked. They called that movie a Tom Cruise best performance. I liked him better in Top Gun, The Last Samurai, and Jack Reacher.

I can't stand the Hulk as a character anyway. I prefer Ghost Rider, but, damn, they fucked the character up soon as they made a movie about it with Nicholas Cage .

The only movie remake I think that comes close to the original was Peter Jackson's remake of King Kong, but the first half of the movie was slow as Hell

Or even rebooting TV series... I can't imagine how the new MacGyver will come out.

Don't know if you're a Reacher Creature, but book fans went rabid over Cruise as Reacher. Even Child originally said the 5' 6" Cruise could never play the 6' 5" Reacher. Then after the deal got done he said Reacher's size, and the books always let you know how big he is, was a metaphor for an unstoppable force, to which the fans said pffffft!

But, like a lot of movies, many viewers aren't familiar with the source so they won't care.

I think you're missing the obvious: Ghostbusters.

Oh, no, I didn't miss the obvious. I haven't seen the new remake of ghostbusters and never will see it. I'm not about to ruin the original movie with an obvious fuckup on the remake. 👠👠👠Kant

I saw the remake (more of a reboot really) and would happily watch again, if only for Holtzmann and Kevin. It certainly has its flaws but the original wasn't perfect either; there's a lot of stuff I LOVED as a kid that feels a bit embarrassing when I revisit it now with adult eyes.

The Postman Always Rings Twice

James Cain's book was great fun.

The 1946 movie with John Garfield and Lana Turner was a butchered version of the book, but a decent movie. Any movie from the 40's or 50's looks a bit silly in the 21st Century, but it's no sillier looking than live theater where everyone gesticulates and hollers like they're crazy.

Last night I watched the 1981 version of The Postman Always Rings Twice with Jack Nicholson and Jessica Lange. Except for a couple of surprisingly graphic scenes of Nicholson palming Lange's pussy and eating her after they beat each other bloody in apparent passion, it had little to offer. Certainly nothing that wasn't better done in the earlier version and far better done in the book.

Point Break, the original was a little cheesy, but fun. This one went so over the top I thought it was another installment of Cruise's Mission Impossible series.

Good news! There's rumors Ghost Rider will appear on Agents of SHIELD, of all places. And not with Nick Cage.

King Kong was so bizarre. It was a love story between a woman and a giant gorilla. Peter Jackson even admitted that's what it was.

Maverick
Wild Wild West

Maverick remake with Jodie Foster is a really fun movie. But they're rebooting MacGyver? That could be really good or really bad.

This exactly. Besides, the two movies are so different that there's little to compare. I'm completely in love with Holtzmann. She stole the whole movie. And I really want to see Chris Hemsworth do more comedies!
