It's so fucking hot here in the summer that it's tough for little ones to play outside during the day - unless you have a pool. Besides that, most of spidey's friends have parents that work, so they're not available for play buddies until late in the afternoon.

What's a parent to do?

We - my youngest son and I - decided to solve this dilemma by becoming movie buddies, and seeing every single movie that we want to see at the theater during the summer. It's nice and cool there, and not too expensive for the matinee, and Tuesday is free popcorn.

Since Saturday, we've seen three. I'm almost movied out, but I promised, so I'm gonna stick with it.

Saturday we saw Spiderman 3: Spidey loved it, of course, but it didn't even come close to the first one.

Yesterday we saw Pirates 3: I loved it, but it was almost too long for spidey.

Today we saw Shrek the Third: this one was a winner for both of us...funny as hell.

We have several more planned already....next is Surf's Up, I think, followed by The Rise of the Silver Surfer, and then Transformers. After that, who knows, but I'm sure there will be plenty for us to watch.

So....what movies have y'all seen so far this summer?

What are you planning to see?

Saw Pirates 3 -- loved it. Really loved it.

Saw Spidey 3 -- loved it.

My 7 and 5 year olds are bugging me to see Transformers. I want to see it just as badly as they do so it's on.

Fantasic Four 2 I may see, just because of the Silver Surfer. I watched the first movie foe 10 minutes, laughed and changed the channel. I hope the sequel is better. Might see Die Hard 4, not sure yet.

I've been waiting for the DVDs lately. Just saw:

Tears of the Black Tiger - Tarantino meets, IDK...mushrooms maybe.

Pan's Labyrinth - good

I'll think of more.

I've already seen Pirates. It was.............. okay.

I really want to see Knocked Up. I absolutely loved 40 year old virgin, so I'm sure this one will be good as well.

Of course, there's Order of the Phoenix due out next month.

I'm looking at a list of movies due out this summer...some I haven't even heard of:

The Bourne Ultimatum
Bratz
Death Sentence
DOA: Dead or Alive
Evan Almighty - we'll probably see this one
Rise of the Silver Surfer
Fido
1408
Gracie
Hairspray
Halloween
Order of the Phoenix
Hostel Part II
Hot Rod - this looks funny
I Know Who Killed Me
I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry - huh?
The Invasion
Knocked Up
The Last Legion
License to Wed
Live Free or Die Hard
Mama's Boy
A Mighty Heart
Mr. Bean's Holiday
Mr. Brooks - want to see this, but not with the young'un
Nancy Drew
No Reservations
Ocean's Thirteen
Pirates 3
Ratatouille - probably end up watching this
Rush Hour 3 - want to see it, but probably not suitable for spidey
Shrek the Third
The Simpsons Movie
Stardust
Superbad
Surf's Up
Transformers
Underdog

Don't take spidey to see Fido. It's a zombie flick.

A funny zombie flick, but I gather there is some brain eating involved.

The Halloween remake is almost horror film heresy. Why the hell remake something that was perfect? Gah!

I am not sure what's interesting, so I am not planning. I do want to see Fab 4: Silver Surfer, but not because I enjoyed the Fabulous Four the first time around. The Silver Surfer concept turns me on (I LOVE surfers and surfing). Transformers? I will avoid that one at all costs - lol.

Saw pirates and enh. It's what I expected in the first place. I am trying to avoid Spidy and Shrek, but eventually I will see them. I see movies weekly, so if I come across any age appropriate ones that are awesome (unlikely - lol) ... I will let you know. I did love Finding Nemo ... oh wait ... looking forward to Ratatouille! :D

BTW - LOL - Tired out already, old girl? :catroar:

LOL. There's only so much age-appropriate fare I can digest in a week or so. ;)

Ratatouille looks like fun, though, I agree.

Yes, please let me know if you see anything that he'd enjoy.

I saw Pirates 3 and enjoyed it.

My brother wants to see Fantastic 4, so I'll go see that with him.

Want to see Transformer, but my brother will be back at school by then, and I hate going to the movies alone (and it's not the type of thing my friends from work would go see). Oh well.

Too bad you're not closer, you could go with us. :rose:

(he'll be back in school by the fourth of July?)

The studios are going crazy with the CGI, talking animal movies. They come out with another one every week it seems.

I remember seeing A Bug's Life(first date with my future wife) and liked some of the recent ones but, geez, with the 'talking CG animals voiced by celebrities; movies. But I guess the kids like them. I've had to buy every single frickin DVD for every one of these movies that come out.

That would have been nice. One of my friends from back home hinted she might be visiting in early July, so I might end up having company.

(Yeah, he's in college even though I speak of him like he's a kid. He wanted to take some summer classes)

One of the most enjoyable things my kids and I have done, was to get classic movies from the library. Last summer, I looked up the American Film Institute's website list of 100 best. We brought the list to the library- or the video store for some and got the Best feel good movies, best comedies, etc. I rented things like Night at the Opera and Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein, and my boys loved it. I had never seen many of the movies, and all the movies on the list are very good. My kids are probably older than yours, 10 to 17, so we did not have to get "kid" movies. I did not have to buy five tickets, the popcorn was warm from the microwave, it was wonderful entertainment after a long hot day.

I think they will remember these times.

What a wonderful idea!

The kid movies the last few years have been entertaining for adults, too, which is a good thing. We've seen most of them, but I'm sure there's some out there that we haven't.

Thanks. :)

I love those Abbott and Costello meets monster movies. Classic stuff.

Well, I'm not much of a theater goer. I like to get out from time to time, but only to see big flashy movies that take up the whole screen and show me visuals (not so much about the story) that are either reallyw ell done, or at the very least really fun to watch.

I think I'll go through Cloudy's list and pick out the movies I have heard of.

Spiderman 3
Like the first two, I won't be seeing this in theaters. I will most likely rent it, or end up waiting for it to show up on cable.

The Bourne Ultimatum
Definitely seeing it in theaters if I get the chance.

DOA: Dead or Alive
It was already released in Europe from what I have heard, and not geting many (if any) good reviews.

Evan Almighty
I didn't really care for Bruce, and this doesn't really look any better, so I'll probably pass it up even when it does reach cable.

Rise of the Silver Surfer
I liked the first Fantastic Four a hell of a lot more than I thought I would. I will definitely be seeing this one in theaters when I get the chance.

Fido
Not a horror movie fan. I'll probbaly skip this one on cable too.

Halloween
Another one? what is wrong with these people...

Order of the Phoenix
Maybe, maybe not. I haven't paid to see a Potter movie yet, but this one might break the trend. I get more interested with each movie that comes out.

And I'm tired of people telling me that they cut so much from the last movie so this one will have stuff in it that won't make sense. Shut up. It's not the books. Movies are completely different, and I don't care what got cut from the books. I didn't ream them.

Hostel Part II
Don't want to see the first one. Really don't want to see this one.

Knocked Up
Don't care. Didn't really like 40 Year Old Virgin, and don't have any hopes for this one.

Live Free or Die Hard
I'm not surprised that they made it, but from what I am seeing, I wish they hadn't.

Mr. Bean's Holiday
Mr bean can be funny in small doses, but I don't think I could sit through an entire movie of him.

Mr. Brooks
I know I've heard about it, but I can't remember what the hell it is...

Ocean's Thirteen
Loved the first one. It was intelligent without being obnoxious, embarrising, or ridiculously impossible. Didn't care for the second one at all because it was all of the things that the first one avoided. The third one looks even worse.

Pirates 3
Saw it already. Very good film. Better than 2, but not quite up to the standard set by the first. All of them were worth seeing though.

Ratatouille
I'm tired of the 3d animal movies. I think that's why I liked Shrek. It wasn't focused on animals that people couldn't understand. It was creatures of all types that everyone could understand.

Rush Hour 3
I have only liked two of Chan's movies made for American audiences, and it niehter of them were a Rush Hour.

Shrek the Third
The first one is one of my favourite animated movies ever. It's probably near my top 20 of all time (I love a lot of movies, so that's not so bad as it sounds). The second one was enjoyable, and worth watching on a lazy Saturday. I don't think I care about this one though. It's geting tired.

The Simpsons Movie
I love the Simpsons and own most of the seasons on DVD (I fell behing when I lost my season 7 set, and didn't want to rebuy it, but I found it last week and can get back to buying the others now). I will most likely wait until it gets to cable though.

Transformers
Not a Michael Bay fan in the least. Or a Transformers fan. But I feel like I HAVE to see this movie in theaters. Strange...

Underdog
I'm surprised that this got made as well...

May I suggest looking for "live theatre", too? Quite often colleges and junior colleges put on summer musicals, usually family friendly.

I've seen Spidey 3 and Pirates 3, but the movie I've been waiting two whole years for is Transformers (No big shocker there). I'd like to see Shrek 3 and FF2, But I HAVE to see Transformers!

ETA: I'd like to see the Simpsons Movie and Knocked Up too.

Mega longness

Little Children?
Good. Almost as good as the book.
And David Lynch's new one, Inland Empire, is coming out soon.

Knocked Up was enjoyble- I think the main problem is that the studios have no other way to bill it than a kind of higher-art gross-out humor.
No doubt, Judd Apatow has a gift (gawd, I almost died laughing during the pink-eye scene), but the movie isn't just that.
I would call it character sketch first, humor second. But rolled nicely into one.

Laughed only three times during Shrek 3. And they weren't guffaws. :(

Waitress (with Keri Russell) is really excellent. Not for kidlets, really, but good all the same. I wanted to eat pie after watching it, and I don't really like pie.
Freakish backstory with the director, Adrienne Shelley, who was murdered before the release, but it's a little grotesque, so I'll leave it at that.
Movie was great, though.

I'm with Belegon- looking forward to Stardust. And probably Evening, too (even though it'll make me cry, dammit).
Oh, and Fantastic Four.

I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Barry is a new Adam Sandler/Kevin James movie where they pretend to be married in order to keep their pension plans or something.

Golly, Thee, I sure hope not. Imagine the paper cuts...

;)

I was half asleep when I wrote that (this too come to think of it). I cannot be blamed for any typos that may have occured (then or now).
