Actually, Harbinger was once an appointed position. It was the person that rode ahead of the King's entourage to prepare the way for the King's arrival. Hence, the word harbinger came to mean a forerunner of events! Today, of course, we have telephones, so there is not a lot of hiring in that sector. I myself earned the position by typing the word "Harbinger" when prompted for a member name. I suppose somebody could type in "Harbinger Wannabe", but I'm sure a choice like that would mystify the entire board.
