Mother and son deal with being in a relationship and still being mother and son

I was thinking of a line on the last page of a story called "Mama's Boy":

"I hope so." she said quietly, "Because even though we're going to be a couple, I still want to be your Mom sometimes." She shrugged. "If that makes sense."

I thought this would be an interesting angle for a story.

A mother and son start not only sleeping together, but eventually thinking of each other and boyfriend and girlfriend. They're still mother and son though and struggle to find a balance between those two relationships.

Two things:

-I think it'd be more fun to depict this as light, funny, and awkward, rather than dark, dramatic, and depressing.

-We should definitely see what causes them to go from mother and son to hooking up for the first time, since that likely informs their whole relationship in the story.

Mom remains Mom in the few motherfucking stories I've written. However the relationship expands, the basis remains. The author's burden is to 'realistically' imagine where their trek into the beyond takes them. Avoid simplicity here; humans are irreducibly complex, weird, and contrary. Mom and Sonny may be a tight or loose couple, may be clean or nasty, may be running games on each other, playing the "I'm your mother" and "You don't own me" cards. Think of how you want the story to end, and take it there.

I sort of explored that type of relationship in "You Have To Go To Mass," where the mother and son become lovers, but the mother still insisted that he respect her wishes and go to Mass with her every Sunday.

Personally, I like the idea of dark, dramatic and depressing. I think an incestuous relationship like this in real life would likely be a complete disaster. It would be so fucked up and nasty, awkward, difficult, etc. That would be a really interesting thing to explore in a story. The key thing would be that they are still incredibly attracted to each other and fuck like rabbits, all the while their relationship is totally ruined. I've always liked the idea of a story where a mother and son start screwing each other and it wrecks their lives, but they just can't stop sleeping together. The mutual attraction is too strong, the taboo thrill is so powerful, the sex so is insanely good, even when everything else has gone to shit, they just can't stop. So, they just end up fucking and fucking and fucking because it becomes the only way they can relate to each other.

I realise this is probably not what you had in mind.

What about this when they are in public they are mother and son, but when they are in the privacy of their home they are Lovers.

Something like that. Just one of the complications they have to navigate.

I read the post quickly the first time and thought, "Wow, that sounds familiar."

Read it more slowly and realized that's because Mama's Boy is my story, from way back in 2012....wow.

Very flattering to see someone getting some inspiration from it.
