OOC: Dave is meeting a blind date at a bar/restuarant. He is six feet tall, dark brown hair, blue eyes, mid 40s.

I sat at the bar checking my watch for the seventh time. I was nervous. A friend of mine had set me up on a blind date for me and said I wouldn't regret it. I was wearing my buisness suit and wishing I had changed before coming here. She was to be wearing a red scarf and that would tell me that it was her.

Ellen was nervous as she stood in front of the mirror, one hand on her stomach, looking at her daughter lying on the bed. "I don't know if I can do this blind date thing. I haven't been on a date since I was younger than you are now. Do I look all right?"

Ellen turned slowly back and forth. She didn't have the figure she had 30 years ago, she had a little middle aged spread here and there but she went to the gym a couple of times a week and ate healthily. She wasn't fat but she wasn't model thin either. Her blue print dress fit well, cut on a bias hem that fell just past her knees. The red scarf worn around her neck was both an accent piece and her signal for her date. Her sheer stockings and blue heels seemed appropriate for a date, but she wasn't sure. "Are you sure I look all right?" she asked her daughter again.

Her daughter laughed as she took Ellen by the shoulders and pushed her towards the door. Although she had her own apartment now, she had come by to lend Ellen her support for the first date Ellen had had since her husband died three years ago. Ellen picked up her purse, made sure her cell phone and keys were inside, then with a deep breath and a quavering smile, she kissed her daughter's cheek and left.

Once she was on the road her nerves got worse. "What was I thinking when I agreed to meet Sue's cousin?" Sue was a co-worker who had painted a picture of her cousin as somone that was totally wonderful but lonely since his own marriage had ended. "I guess his loneliness struck a chord in me," Ellen admitted to herself.

She pulled up to the restaurant and turned off the key. Then sat there a few moments. She thought about her husband and what a wonderful life they had had. She knew he would want her to move on but it was hard. She missed him but had reached the point where the memories were good, and the pain had eased. She wasn't sure what she wanted but she knew that being alone wasn't it.

Adjusting the red scarf slightly, she got out of the car. With another deep breath, she braced herself and then made her feet move. "Right, left, right, left." Counting out the steps made her smile and she entered the restaurant door with the grin still showing. She paused near the entrance to the bar/restaurant and looked around. She knew nothing about him other than he had dark hair and was "lonely". Looking quickly over the other men at the bar, she decided the description fit at least half of them. She sighed softly, there was no way of knowing if he was there or hadn't arrived. She turned to walk over to a bench in the small waiting area.

Laura again reassured her mother as she ushered her through the front door and handed her the car keys.

"Mom, it's just a date. You'll be fine, you look great, go have fun!" With that she closed the door behind her and ran back to her mothers room where she flopped onto the bed.

It was nice when she came home for a while, sometimes she missed the familiar smells and sounds of living in the same house as her mother. Her own apartment was always cold and quiet. Tonight she would stay here, keep her mother company as she got ready for her blind date, and be there to talk with her when she got back.

She climbed under the covers and flicked the tv on, settling on a crime drama.

I saw my blind date arrive and look around. I realized there were several men here in business suits. She turned around and sat down in the waiting area. I got up and walked over to her. She was wearing a blue dress with matching stockings and shoes and the red scarf. I held out my hand and said 'You must be Ellen. I'm Dave Wallace, Sue's cousin." She smiled up at me and I suggested that we find a booth to get something to eat. We were shown to our table.
We sat down and the waiter brought out some ice water and the menus. I looked at my menu and a few moments later asked "Do you see anything you like?" I looked up and smiled at her, waiting for her asnwer.

Ellen

Ellen hadn't been sitting for more than a minute or two when she was approached by a very nice looking man. He introduced himself and they went to one of the tables. After ordering, they talked about the usual things, his work, hers which was Dental Assistant. They talked about family, she told him about her daughter who was not only her daughter but now that they were both adults she had become a friend also.

The waiter brought their food. Ellen was impressed with Dave's manners. He was very polite towards the waiter and that was a huge plus in her eyes. She truly dislike people that were inconsiderate to others.

She had been so nervous but Dave made her feel comfortable, and she relaxed. They compared work stories that made both of them laugh. By the time dessert had come, they were talking about favorite authors.

Ellen was surprised at how fast the time went, how much she was enjoying herself. She smiled at Dave and said, "I am having a wonderful time. Thank you for agreeing to meet with me. I admit I had reservations about a blind date but this has truly been a lot of fun."

Ellen hoped that Dave had enjoyed the meal also. She really liked him and wanted to get to know him better.

The meal went by quickly, as we exchanged war stories from work. She was a Dental Assistant and I was an Accountant. We talked and joked and I really enjoyed meeting Ellen. We were talking about our favorite authors as desert arrived.
I mentioned to her that I was just beginning the new novel by David McCullough and had gotten a new book about Dracula by a female author, whose name I couldn't remember.
She said " I am having a wonderful time. Thank you for agreeing to meet with me. I admit I had reservations about a blind date but this has truly been a lot of fun". I smiled back at her and said "Well, thanks for the complement. Blind dates can be very awkward. I would like you to know that I am having a terrific time. I would be glad to see you home, if I may and I would like to see you again."

Ellen

Ellen was having a terrific time. They had talked about so many topics she felt she knew him well. She was a little concerned that she might becoming too attracted to him too soon, after all this was her first date. When he asked to see her home, she paused at first, some guys thought dinner meant sex. But she really hadn't gotten the feeling that he felt that way and, she remembered, Laura was there.

"I would enjoy getting to know you more. I am sure the restaurant would like to use their table for someone else," she grinned. "Would you like to follow me home? I could make some coffee if you wanted to talk a bit more.I would love to introduce you to my daughter, Laura, if she is stil there."

Dave

She replied "I would enjoy getting to know you more. I am sure the restuarant would like to use their table for someone else. Would you like to follow me home? I could make some coffee if you wnated to talk a bit more. I would love to ontorduce you to my daughter, Laura, if she is still there."
I said "That would be terrific. I would love to meet your daughter and talk more." I settled the bill and followed her to her car. I opened the door for her and showed her where my car was and told her to "lead the way". I got in my car and followed her out of the parking lot back to her home. She pulled into her driveway and I parked along the street. I got out and walked up her driveway to meet her at her car.

Laura woke with a start and blinked her eyes. The TV still on, was showing infomercials, and the clock beside her was saying it was much too late.

She stretched and stood, turning the TV off as she did.

'Hmm.. Mom will be home soon, amd if her date went well, maybe he'll be with her! I should give them some privacy.' She thought to herself as she gathered her coat and keys. Her Mom didn't often date, and she didn't want to be a wet blanket if it happened to be going well. Finding a pad of paper and a pen, she left a note for her mother on the fridge:

"Mom,

Hope your night went well, call me tomorrow! I'm sure we have lots to talk about.

Me."

Throwing her coat around her shoulders, Laura left and went to her car to drive the 10 minutes home.

Ellen

Ellen drove carefully, keeping one eye on the mirror so that she didn't lose Dave. He seemed like a really nice man and she was glad they had met. When she pulled into the driveway, Dave walked over to her car and opened her door for her. She smiled at him as she slid out of the seat. It had been a very long time since someone had opened her door for her.

Unlocking the door, she led the way into the house. She glanced around to see if it was straightened up and to look for Laura. The lamp was on in the den but the TV was off. "I guess Laura went home. Usually if she is here, she is parked in front of the TV."

"Would you like to take off your coat and stay for coffee?" she asked as she shrugged out of her own coat. Moving closer to Dave to collect his coat if he decided to stay, she looked up at him.

She opened the front door and looked around. She said " I guess Laura went home. Usually if she is here, she is parked in front of the TV." She took off her coat and asked " Would you like to take off your coat and stay for coffee?"
I peeled off my jacket and said " Coffee would be nice and I'm sure I will meet Laura sooner or later." I handed her my coat and lossened my tie a bit.
I looked down into her green eyes, as I handed my coat over and our hands touched. She took both coats and went to the closet. I watched her as she walked, admiring her ass as she made her way to hang up the coats. As she turned back towards me, I was looking around and admiring her living room. I said "Ellen, you have a very nice place."

Ellen

"Thank you. I am glad you like it." she replied. It felt so good to hear a male voice in the house again. She hadn't realized how much she missed that.

"I will be right back, I will put the coffee on."

Going into the kitchen, Ellen started the coffee and then took out a tray, placing sugar, spoons, saucers and cups on it. Turning to open the door for the cream, she noticed the note. Smiling at her daughter's flowery writing, a style she had developed when she was thirteen, she read the message. She took out the cream and set it on the tray. While she waited for the coffee she smiled to herself, wondering just how much of her evening she would share with Laura.

When the coffee was ready, Ellen carried the tray into the den and set it down. Pouring coffee into the two cups, she asked Dave, "Sugar, cream?"

Dave

She thanked me for the complement and went into the kitchen to prepare the coffee, stating that she would be right back.
Ellen came out of the kitchen and brought saucers, sugar, cups and cream on a tray. She set the tray down and asked "Sugar, cream?"
I smiled back at her and said "Yes" She lean forward and poured the coffee and as she did, her cleavage revealed more of her gorgeous breasts. I added "Both will do nicely" and I winked at her. She blushed and smiled back at me.

Ellen

Handing Dave his cup, Ellen poured her own coffee then leaned back in the chair to enjoy the scent before drinking. There was a comfortable silence for a short time as they drank, and shared laughter when they both started to speak that the same time, "Have you ever...?"

Ellen waved her hand at Dave and he finished his sentence. Soon the two were in a deep discussion about the benefits of mulch vs manure for roses.

Dave

We both tried to talk at the same time and Ellen waved me to go first. We got into several different discussions and before I knew it, it was 2am. I stiffled a yawn and said "Sorry to keep you up so late. Ellen I have had a wonderful time and I would like to see you again. I was wondering if you would like to go out Friday to get something to eat and see a movie? Nothing fancy, just be yourself."

Ellen

Ellen stood up and stretched. Amazed at how long they had been sitting there talking.

She smiled at Dave, "I would love to go out with you again. Friday is perfect." She walked to the closet and got out his coat, holding it out for him. Then walked him to the door.

Dave

She said "I would love to go out with you. Friday is perfect." She walked over the closet and held out my jacket for me and then walked me to the door.
I turned and smiled at her and said "Thank you for a lovely evening, Ellen. How about 7pm. Would you like me to pick you up here?" I placed my hand around hers and squeezed gently.

Ellen smiled as they said good-bye at the door. Dave took her hand and held it, and the warmth and strength in it, reminded her of how good it felt to be held by a man. She had always felt awkward at the good-byes, would he kiss her, wouldn't he part. So she squeezed his hand back lightly and smiled, "Seven on Friday, here, would be perfect. Thank you for a wonderful evening. I enjoyed every minute of it."

Laura couldn't sleep. She was excited to hear about her mother's date. She wasn't sure whether it was over or not. Would her mom sleep with a man on the first date? No, she wasn't that kind of woman. It was a good bet that their date was long over, and Laura's mom was at home in bed. She hoped she was still awake.

Pulling her coat on, Laura trudged out to her car in her pyjamas and drove the distance back to her mom's house, eager to hear her story. She pulled up behind a car parked out front.

"Shit! He's still here?" She shook her head, but light coming from the house suddenly caught her eye. The door was opening, and a shadowed figure stepped from the house. "He's leaving! I have good timing." She grinned to herself and squinted through the darkness, trying to catch a glimpse of the man. Too dark. "Damn! I wanted to see what he looks like!"

Dave

She responded by squeezing my hand back and smiled up at me and said "Seven on Friday, here, would be perfect. Thank you for a wonderful evening. I enjoyed every minute of it."
I pulled her towards me and leaned forward to kiss her, seeing if she would recoil or if she would allow me a goodnight kiss.

Ellen

When Dave leaned down to kiss her, Ellen closed her eyes and kissed him back. It was a nice, sweet kiss. His lips soft and firm at the same time. He tasted of coffee and something that she recognized as his own taste.

When they parted, she opened her eyes and smiled at him. "Nice," she whispered.

Dave

She kissed back, a soft sensual kiss, hinting of things to come. She opened her eyes and whispered 'nice'.
I whispered back 'until Friday, then' and turned and left. I made my way to my car and noticed a car directly in back of it. There was a driver, but that was about all I could make out. I got in my car and started it. That was when I noticed the figure get out of the car behind me. It was a female and she made her way to Ellen's house. I turned on my lights and drove down the street. I made a mental note that I had reserved a table for lunch tomorrow and needed to get home and get at least get a little sleep.

Laura got to the door just before her mother locked it. She opened it slighlty and peered through the crack at her mom.

"That was him? Was he nice? Where did you go? Why is he still here?" She was excited, and the questions tumbled out of her mouth as she pushed her way inside and shrugged off her coat. "Is he cute?" She giggled.

Ellen

She watched Dave pull away. As Ellen began to close the door she noticed someone getting out of their car. Who would be out at 2 am?

Then she realized the figure was very familiar. Shaking her head as she watched her daughter scurrying up the driveway. She began to laugh, Laura never could wait for anything. Even as a child she would stay up half the night running up and down the stairs to watch for Santa.

"Come in but be quiet, you will wake the neighborhood," shushing her as she began to talk before getting in the door.

Ellen closed the door, still chuckling and looked at her closely, "Are you in your pajamas? I was going to call you in the morning, you know. Come on, let's see if there is any of that cheese cake left." Following her into the kitchen, Ellen paused to pick up the tray from the den. Setting it on the counter, she poured two new cups of coffee and handed one to Laura. Then rummaging in the refrigerator, she pulled out the cheese cake and cut two large slices. Knowing Laura, they were going to be up the rest of the night dissecting every detail of Ellen's date.

Laura sat at the table and sipped her coffee.

"So? Spill!" Her eyes were alive with curiosity, she could hardly keep still in her seat.
