Most powerful film score?

Certain movies the score is almost a character. Star Wars, Good Bad Ugly, Jaws, Godfather, few others. Makes it hard to pick what is the best. The most powerful? Probably impossible to say since each individual has a different reaction to a movie score. Hard to believe but some people don't even much notice the music in Star Wars while others (most really) can't imagine the movie without it.
Anyway, point is I don't know but I felt like mouthing off on the subject.

There is Patton.

Then, there are all the rest.

Mishima
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
Once Upon A Time In The West
Lawrence of Arabia
Batman
Star Wars
Doctor Zhivago

Easy Rider

The Excorcist was very subtle, simple, but very effective.
Dances with wolves was excellent.

I am not a music expert by any means but for me The Exoricst is Tubular Bells and nothing else. Maybe it's that whole subtle thing you mentioned. I've also not seen it in years so whenever I see it again I'll see if I notice the music more.

Speaking of Kevin Costner, I saw Waterworld on tv this weekend. I think it benefits from not seeing it in forever because I found myself enjoying it quite a bit and thinking it's not nearly as bad as its rep. Or maybe it was because I was just a little stoned.

I just saw Waterworld for the first time about a year ago.
I enjoyed it. Very entertaining but kinda long.
I remember when lindsay lohan did that movie Georgia Whatever?? and it was ridiculed.
I didn't think it was bad at all.
Guess it's good that I don't work for rotten tomatoes.

Yes, to the above!

My votes:
Out of Africa
https://youtu.be/eWZ2adCaKo4

The Lion in Winter- also a favorite of Byron's*
https://youtu.be/t3g1XMakoEQ

Dr Zhivago
https://youtu.be/AkeNsVBLdtg

Dances with Wolves, The Lion in Winter and Out of Africa were all written by John Barry. Dr Zhivago was written by by Maurice Jarre

* Byron had yet to see and hear Out of Africa, and Dr Zhivago. They were on our list.

N.B., I'd forgotten one and had to add it to the list below (Raiders of The Lost Ark).

If we're also including soundtracks then Saturday Night Fever has to get a shout out with a bump and a hustle.
