It's a vicious cycle. We chose names not on the popular list for our kids and the next year they were on the popular name list.

My daughter Cardboardia is still waiting for her name to appear on the list

Alfie? Isn't that the dorky kid in the Christmas Story? Would you trust a banker named Alfie? *shudders*

Oh sure, we just decide on a name and now I'm rethinking Oliver!

In the US in 2008 (according to babycenter.com anyway...) the most popular were:

1 Emma/Aiden
2 Sophia/Jayden
3 Madison/Ethan
4 Isabella/Jacob
5 Olivia/Caden
6 Ava/Jackson
7 Madeline/Noah
8 Addison/Jack
9 Hailey/Logan
10 Lily/Matthew

Just so long as Todd is never on there. It is a terrible name, and no one should ever have to suffer having it again.

I agree but I'm biased. My ex was a Todd.

My name is never on the most popular lists. Never has been as far as I know.

I don't see Tripp on that list anywhere.

Or Track or Trig or Truck or Bristol or Pistol.

Kinda disappointing.

I'm biased too. MY name is Todd.

"What is your name? Nice to meet you Tom. Tim? Scott? Bob?"

"My name is Fuck You! Now leave me alone!"

Change it? I've thought about changing mine. Hate it. I wince when people say my name. Ugh. It's not a fun thing to go around with a name you hate.

I would if I could choose a name that I actually did like, and a dozen other people around me didn't already have...

Yes! I was wondering what it is with those names. Is it just the family or the whole state that has names like that?

I was just curious enough to check. The rest of the state appears to be a bit more normal.

The day my first name shows up on the 'Favorites' for any country, it will be a sure sign of the coming of the End Times. TGP, you got nuttin' on mine.

rachael ... little lamb. hrm. only i could never figure out how to spell it when i was learning how to write my name. so, my dad told me to keep going in circles... now my name is spelled rachelle but pronounced rachel.
fuck.

one of my ex's middle name is edwin. this explains quite a bit.

You must be joking. I just read that MOHAMMED is the most popular Brit name these days. I kid you not!

Og doesn't appear on the UK list, nor The Times list, either as Og or with his real first name.

What is worrying is that many of my parents' generation of first names (from the 1880s to 1910s) ARE on the list.

Do names go in 100-year cycles?

Wow! Who would've thought that my 98-year old Grandmother's name would be second on that list in 2008? (She's Ruby by the way, not Oliver. ;))

So, to see what to call our children in say, 5 years time, do we start looking at the names of today's 93-year olds? Trouble is, I don't know many 93-year olds...
