Speak up, everyone. (Hope they're listening).

There are a lot of good things to say about Chyoo 2, but I figured we should collect the "most needed fixes/enhancements."

Usability

Serious: "View Previous Thread" unavailable. Workaround: Use the thread map in another window.

Annoying: Multi-page navigation at bottom of page. (scroll, scroll)

Annoying, Maybe I'll get used to it: "My Stories" mixes edited stories and contributed stories.

Cosmetics

Rather Annoying: The Quote Problem (double quotes escaped to " and accented characters clobbered).

Annoying: Stark black-on-white. (But not yet annoying enough to make me write up an external stylesheet).

Agree Z! and..

I miss the approved thread comments page. Or is there something else I need to be doing? The feedback page would fill up right quick if each thread's approval notes had to go there!

Yeah this &quot thing is annoying. I've made a start on re-editing my threads, but with 84 of my own plus 30-40 threads other people have contributed to my stories it will take some time as I get bored with it real quick.

Not to mention I can't edit the quotes on a thread I accidentally posted anonymously.

But seriously, the big issue is SPEED. Mine can't be the only story still waiting in the queue for approval or rejection- get them up, get them out there!

For me, the view previous thread button never worked when I was approving threads on the old site, so I won't really miss it.

"yay"

Quotes, with a few exceptions, like the option or question seem to have been fixed, unless there's some mysterious benefactor working hard.

German characters missing

German umlauts (ä = ae, ö = oe and ü = ue) and the scharfes s ß are not shown, some squares and the like in their place, and the following letters are also missing.
An international font must be used for an international site!

Am I too impatient?

Hello,
well I was wondering if I am the only one who is getting a little fraustrated with the new Chyoo. I want to get back into Chyoo more but everytime I come I see the same thing... no changes, no updates, no anything. today is the 22nd, that means it's almost been 2 weeks since Chyoo 2.0 was released. The fresh stories are now, stale... expect mine. lol. Well I mean there are fresher stories that deserve to be on the title page. I would love to check the top rated stories... but that is all wrong too. If you don't know what I mean, have a look. The ratings are ordered right.

Alright... I am done.

yah...

Sorry to be a party pooper here,

Chyoo2 just doesn't have the feel of the last one. For some reason I've had writers block since the change. (That and my last story STILL hasn't been approved.)

Altogether I'm thinking about dropping out of chyoo and just turning my stories into pure linear stuff. I mean, 5000 readers cant be wrong... right?

Stuart

Our Small Town became a Big City.

Hello,
although I will never fully drop-out of Chyoo, my visits have become less and less. I agree 100% with Stuart that Chyoo2 just doesn't have that same feeling to it... the message boards are the only thing that still seem homey to this small community. To me it feel like our little Chyoo went from being a small town to a big city overnight and everybody just became annoynmous strangers... These message boards are even a pain in the butt to get to now. You have to go through the lit site and all. Will that be changed? Someday, I suppose.

I hate being discouraged about something I enjoy doing so much! Maybe somebody can give us some tips that will help re-light, the Chyoo fire. What can help us? Any thoughts? A petting zoo might be a good start too. Bring on the Sex-Beast!

Discouraged

All the change here has been somewhat discouraging. Combined with the fact I've become increasingly busy at work, I don't have the opportunity to contribute much, and I miss it. I appreciate the improvements that have been made here, but on the whole, I'd have to say it dosen't seem like an improvement ovr the old place. Everything seemed so much easier. Anyway I'll still contribute when I can, and hope to contribute threads to those who've recently done so for my stories. I hope the update is finished soon, I'm still optimistic. My best wishes to my fellow authors

Yea, nice to know I'm not the only one with writers block as of late...used to be I could think up all these different storylines...and well...I've been somewhat disinterested as of late...which is kinda weird...oh well perhaps my mind will change on that...

'm startin' ta get cranky here....

six weeks, three story introductions submitted, zero activity as regards getting them approved. That's right, I submitted my story seeds before the changeover, and they haven't done jack with them. I'd really like to get them moving, but it isn't gonna happen till someone goes in and approves them....

So I'd say the most needed Chyoo fix is one that's been there for a while: Sombody to approve the story introductions on a timely basis!

I only stumbled on to chyoo about a week before the change to Chyoo 2 so I'm more familiar with the new version than the old one. However I do agree that there is a lot of stuff which needs to be fixed.

Given the small time period that i've been using the site I'm still really enjoying writing stuff, and I am attempting to at least write one new thread everytime i'm on.

I've also been waiting about three weeks to see if my first story has been approved, and most of the info on the front Chyoo page doesn't seem to have changed at all since the update.

Rating rankings

In the rating rankings, unrated stories (0/0) are now shown on top, which is nonsense. Something should be done also to avoid all the stories with a single good rate to be the first, maybe by sorting stories with the same mean rating by number of votes (4.0/3 before 4.0/1).

Sorting of threads

Has anyone figured out a way to sort the threads so that all the threads from one story sort together?

I have 350 some threads to look through and it takes for ever in the order they are in now. On the bright side my dim mind just figured out that by going to the story map I can jump right to the thread I want to add to without clicking through 10 or 15 threads to get to the correct place.

Maybe I am getting the hand of this new beast finally!!

:D

:D

Yeah, just use the advanced search. Give in your pseudonym, mark "show results as threads" and "Sort results by title in ascending order". 358 threads are a lot really - congratulations! - so maybe you will want to "search from a month ago". Or you leave it at default as "Sort results by last modified in descending order", then you get your newest additions on the first page.

marmot, still playing around with the new features

Using the search function you can find new threads and updated stories unlike on the front page.

Thanks

I wil give it a try. Sounds like that should take care of the problem.

soul searching

The amount of options on the search page is great as you can search by various keywords or names. Well I'm going to see Audioslave and TSOL this weekend.

When you're trying to approve a new thread there's no easy link to whichever page it's trying to extend from. The Chyoo 1.0 had a link, it was broken but simply needed the story ID inserted. It's really hard to tell whether the thread-to-approve is approvable unless you know, for sure, which page its adding too.

Story Map

Can't you use the story map to see where the thread is being added? I am able to see the threads that are awaiting approval on the story map.

:D

I'm not sure but it may have something to do with the little circles on the story map to the left of each thread. I think they may appear filled or in a different colour.
