One of the great things about this site is that it’s filled with history. some of these stories are so old, some of the current writers were literally prepubescent children the story was published.

I’ve come to develop an appreciation for the consistent writers. These are people whose writings have spanned years and never branch out too much beyond their core kinks. Like, if the author was writing BDSM petplay stories in 2011, they’re still writing stories about BDSM petplay now. So long as they’re alive and writing, their stories will be about BDSM petplay far into the future. While other authors are capricious, grow bored, and eventually try new things, these guys pump out the same kind of stories year after year, decade after decade.

I salute you. You are a stabilizing force in a chaotic world. Keep it up.

I admire them, but I don't understand them. At any given moment I have a dozen new ideas floating around in my head, across as many different themes. One moment I want to write about the heart-thumping experience of spying on a woman undressing, the next it's tentacled demons, or a troll's love story. I suppose it hurts my ratings, because fans of one genre aren't keen on another, but I'm not going to spin off multiple accounts for different genres.

My I suggest the following as being queens of this category?

Bi_Cathy - clever, twisty, sexy sapphic stories since 2011

-Ripley- - producing fine D/S tinged lesbian romance since 2003

My focus on NC/R has been pretty stable since I published my first story here. I have ventured out occasionally, like dipping my toe into Loving Wives and Incest/Taboo. I won't rule out venturing outside of NC/R again, but I imagine I'll stay pretty solidly focused there.

Well, that's clearly not me. I've written in six categories in less than six months, and the next story will go in seventh. My ratings don't seem to be hurting too much for it.

I'm somewhere in the middle.
I think that trying some new things is good for an author, even if it's for no other reason than to get yourself out of your comfort zone. But I dislike it when an author is all over the place with the themes and types of stories they write. I am not a fan of the catch-all approach even when it stems from a genuine author's desire and curiosity, and far less when it comes from the desire to be omnipresent or to pull as many diverse readers as possible.

I guess I qualify as one of those old writers though it looks like I stopped writing for about 20 years. I did stop publishing at Literotica because of some personal reasons, but I didn't stop writing. I've been publishing here some of what I wrote over those intervening years.

I haven't been particularly consistent in categories. I never start out to write for a particular category. I write a story that comes to me and then figure out which category to put it in. There are some categories I will never write i either because I can't make myself get into the mood.

I don't think it's a good idea to write something out of your comfort zone. That works well for writing classes because it does require the writer to "stretch", but I doubt it results in their best work. I know it wouldn't be enjoyable for me, and I write because I like writing what I write.

I firmly believe that if you write what you like, you'll find a group of readers who like it too.

I branched out a bit earlier on, but the last few years I've stuck with what I enjoy which is mom/son sibs and Milf.

I just don't see the appeal in trying to write in as many categories as possible. If that's your thing, more power to you but I don't see it as inherently good.
Is Rembrandt an inferior artist because he only painted, and never tried his hand at sculpting?
Was Monet a fool for sticking with impressionism rather than trying his hand at different styles of painting?
Asimov wrote a book in every major category of the Dewey Decimal system.
Agatha Christie should have taken a page from his book and not wasted her time on all those detective stories...

I've been here for a long time. A LOT of my early stories are putrid but I keep them up to remind myself of how much I have improved as a writer over the years. I've written in most of the categories. Recently, A story I posted close to ten years ago got its first comment despite having been read tens of thousands of times.

I'd put myself on that list. There's just four stories in my list that don't feature a beautiful older woman, worshipped by a younger man.

I tend to write things based around the theme that no one is all one thing or another. No one is ever 100% truly consistent because no situation is ever 100% the exact same as another. Nuance matters in each situation.

Sometimes good guys fuck up and bad ones do the right thing. Sometimes the relationship that everyone wants to see happen is toxic as fuck and only those in the relationship realize and accept that. Every now and then the asshole is uplifting because they meet the right person and want to see that person succeed.

People are complicated, characters should be as well.

I've hit nearly every Literotica category, but always with my driving kink of CFNM playing a central, or at least decent sized, role, proving that there is indeed more than one to skin a cat...or in my case, strip a muscular man! 😉
