Does anybody know the scientific explination for why men wake up with erections most of the time?

I know it's not always sexual, because I just woke up at full mast and was not really sexually aroused at all(until I logged on to Lit that is).

It makes peeing in the morning a major challenge, that's all i can say.

:)

well

it could be a way of telling you have to pee.im not sure why that happens either.

People in "real life" have told me that it's because they have to pee also, but I never bought that explanation, at least not on a case-by-case basis. I often wake up with a full or nearly full erection without having to pee.
I understand that a full erection shuts off the possibility of peeing (through mechanisms I don't clearly understand), and this could be the underlying explanation for the morning wood phenomenon. However, little boys don't necessarily wet their beds until they're capable of having erections.
I'm pretty sure I must have woken up needing to pee without having one (can't quite remember specifically).
So I don't quite buy it, but I don't really have much else to offer.

Maybe it's a "Practice Erection," for guys who don't get any, to make sure the mechanism stays oiled and functioning. Isn't the old saying, "Use it or lose it?" :)

I agree, I don't think it's just peeing either. It might have something to do with the relaxation of the muscles or whatever it is that keeps the blood out usually. Although in that case we would be hard all night long. I know some ladies that would enjoy that phenomenon. :)

But they do wake up with erect penises on occasion. Just ask a few moms and dads who have changed their diapers before the little one is fully awake.

i recall morning wood referred to a a piss hard on.

i can have sex with it as best as i recall...it kinda hurts and i don't last long.

Re: Morning Wood

Blood circulation is regulated by autonomic nervous system which has two major divisions. The sympathetic system regulates fight or flight type responses to stressful situations. The vascular dilation which causes the increased blood flow necessary to create an erection is regulated by the parasympathetic division which is responsible for things like healing, resting and digesting. This is why males often develop an erection during states of deep relaxation or upon arising from sleep.

Myst.. cleaning. Washing out anything that shouldn't be there.

A buildup of manly fluids

I think it's because testosterone level is highest in the morning.

In addition, I heard and explanation by an MD who said that in the detumescent state, there may not be adequate blood flow to maintain the tissue healthy. Hence, nocturnal erections occur occasionally to provide an adequate blood supply for tissue maintenance. Consequently, the presence of an erection at the moment of awakening is more coincidental than anything else.

Is there anything that Uncle Bill does not know?

Unclebill & Myst

Unclebill, I have never heard that theory before in any of my AP classes. I won’t say that your source is wrong but I do think that his hypothesis is doubtful. One thing that the bodies tissues can not store is oxygen. If the blood supply was chronically insufficient there would be a high occurrence of hypoxic [lack of oxygen] damage to the tissue. Prolonged hypoxic injuries usually leads to ulcerations and sclerosis [thickening of the tissue due to increased scar formation]. Seeing as most males don’t have an erection for hours at a time during their waking hours at a time and there is little incidence of these symptoms I would say that poor blood supply is an unlikely cause of nocturnal erections.

Myst, I certainly did not mean to be sexist. I was mealy responding to Mars99’s question about morning erections, but to answer your question about “morning dew”: in the female arousal response, many of the nervous and circulatory responses are the same.

Parasympathetic nervous impulses move from the sacral spinal cord, causing arteries associated with the erectile tissues to dilate and the veins to constrict. As a result, the inflow of blood increases and the outflow of blood decreases causing the erectile tissues swells.
At the same time, the vagina expands and elongates. Parasympathetic nervous stimulations also causes the vestibular glands [Bartholin’s gland] to secrete mucus into the vestibule moistening and lubricating the lower end of the vagina.

It is probable that states of deep relaxation can also cause increased secretion of lubrication in females much the same way that males develop erections in such states.

.

I'm not really doubting what you said but how can we believe somebody with a name like that talking about anything sexual?

Sound like "Under the bleachers, by Seymor Hinney"

lol

Thanks for the info LMT & Uncle Bill

Myst, perhaps yours could be called "Morning Myst" :)

Morning Myst

sounds like the name of a douche.

.........and I feel fresh as morning myst...............

Morning wood is good.
Morning wood is wonderful
To use the wood is good
To pee with the wood is blunderful

Having the wood and using it to full capability is great, but damn just damn trying to pee whilst in the midst of the wood SUCKS!!!

Heehee... you said WOOD... (sorry... having terrible Beavis and Butthead flashbacks)...

BTW ladies, morning wood is a major contributing factor to us peeing all over the bathroom floor, wall, etc. Try peeing while standing with your legs spread 4 feet apart and leaning forward at a 45 degree angle with one hand propped against the wall. Tougher than ya might think!
