FebruRY 23, 1941 Alex Raymond pulls off the neat trick of a stripsearch in the Sunday comics! My dad, who was born in 1930, learned how to read via the "Flash Gordon" comic strip. Images like this tell me why. Imagine this running today with all its male gaze and lesbian implication. People would be marching on the paper and burning the printing press! Just goes to show what an author or artist can achieve just by interjecting fantasy or science fiction. What other examples of vintage erotica in plain sight are you aware of? Do tell!

Aside from the “all lesbians are man-like” implication, i guess it’s relatively innocent. Compared to Porn Hub any way.

We had a discussion about Dale getting whipped recently. By a woman again.

Em

PS autocorrect change that to Porn Hun 🤣

I don't know about today, but it would have run afoul of Wertham's BS Seduction of the innocent that led to the comics code in the 50's.

That's for sure, but the comics that started Wertham on his way to comic books were BDSM comics penciled anonymously by one of the creators of Superman. He knew he didn't have a case with low-circulation comics sold under the counter so he transitioned to superhero comics. He was looking for a soapbox and he found one.

Actually, it was non super hero comics that were used in most of his examples. Crime and horror comics are featured heavily in his book due to the bondage, violence and gore. (The infamous needle to the eye cover of Mister Mystery #12 1953 one of the most famous instances) EC Comics were the biggest victim of Wertham's crusade Atlas(Marvel's name at the time) and DC could have fought the code, but they realized it would hurt them, but not badly, whereas it would cripple EC so they stood by and let it happen.

Gaines, owner of EC, had the last laugh, pivoting to black and white MAGAZINE format and bringing back a lot of EC talent to work on Creepy, then Eerie and Vampirella under the Warren label. Mad also went from comic to mag format

In the here and now, SOTI did collectors both a service and disservice. Any comic mentioned in the book is worth more than the issues around it in the run so if you have it, good for you, of you're trying to collect them...ouch. I have a local dealer who has every comic referenced in SOTI and it cost him quite a bit to assemble the collection.

What's sad is we see similar censorship today under the guise of what's deemed as "racist" or just "wrong" and few are smart enough to see it and see why its so important that it shouldn't be happening.

Can you provide an example of the censorship you're talking about? Most of the censorship I hear about these days is Moms for Liberty and other right-wingers trying to ban books from schools because they have gay people in them.

If a straight teacher, male or female, talked about sex to a child they'd lose their job. Somehow its okay if the teacher is a man wearing make up and telling them he's a woman.
I get emails from my kid's school about the health and sexuality topics they're going over. I don't know if the teacher is straight or not though.

How old are they? "Sex Ed" in High school isn't the same as if those things are being discussed in elementary school and if a student of any age has some questions about their 'identity' that's for the parents to discuss and handle, not a teacher who has 35 kids to deal with and has no right pushing a kid in any direction.

By the way, I deleted the post you quoted. I decided not to argue politics with brainwashed obliviots on the board. They can PM me if they want to get sent into a frothing snowflake frenzy.

I should also change the part you quoted. If a female teacher talked sex to students, she's a monster, if a male teacher does it, its because the female student were sluts and asking for it.

6th grade but I got the emails since 3rd or so, with topics getting more adult over the years. They cover the topics of gender identity and transgenderism and sexual orientation.
