More than 1.1 million Americans dropped off the food stamp rolls since President Trump took office in January 2017, according to the latest U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) statistics on food stamp enrollment.

Participation in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) dropped to 41,496,255 in May 2017, the most recent data available from the USDA, from 42,691,363 in January 2017 when Trump took office.

According to the latest data, SNAP enrollment during the first few months of Trump’s presidency decreased by 2.79 percent.

Food stamp participation on average in 2017 has dropped to its lowest level since 2010, and the latest numbers show that this trend is continuing.

Trump proposed cuts to SNAP in his 2018 budget proposal, suggesting that states match up to 20 percent of federal money allotted for the food stamp program and expand work requirements for able-bodied adults receiving food stamps.

Food stamp eligibility rules have changed across the nation this year. Many people who needed that safety net will have to do without it now.

Welfare reform!

I'm loving it!!

Awesome! Fuck those poor people and starving children..

And Trump should fly that Air Force One to Florida as many times as he likes... Who gives a crap if people go hungry!

Great thread query!

This is a growth budget that will restore Clinton-Gingrich welfare reforms

The free ride is over, Cowboy.

When OMB (Office of Management and Budget) Director Mick Mulvaney unveiled the new budget, he used language that is so important -- although we haven't heard it in so many years. To paraphrase Mulvaney, the measure of budget success for the President Donald Trump administration is not how much federal assistance is given out, but how many people leave government dependency and join the private labor force as fully-fledged workers.

The last time I heard a talk like this was over 20 years ago when President Bill Clinton teamed with Speaker Newt Gingrich to pass welfare reform. They argued that tighter eligibility, time limits, work-search mandates, and better training programs would move people from welfare to workfare. Critics said wait, no — tougher welfare requirements will throw millions onto the streets with no federal assistance. Turns out they were wrong. Millions moved into the labor force to work productively, grow the economy, and provide themselves with new self-esteem and happiness.

So now, over 20 years later, Mick Mulvaney is talking workfare over welfare. And, of course, the left-wing screaming has begun.

But something must be done. Almost eight years after the recession trough, government benefits for welfare, food stamps (44 million people receive food-stamp benefits today, compared with 14 million in December 2007), Medicaid, and Social Security Disability Insurance are still exploding.

The expansion of food stamps, welfare, health-insurance subsidies, unemployment assistance, and disability assistance have led to unintended consequences and perverse after-tax incentives, such that it pays more to stay on assistance than to go to work. At the working-poor margin, taking a job may rob you of Obamacare subsidies. So better off not to work.

What's your take on corporate welfare? Where huge companies get huge tax breaks.. Pay little or not tax... Where Ceos make obscene amounts of money.. Multiple hundred million dollar golden parachutes..

Is that a problem?. More or less than a gramma raising a crack addicted baby getting a few bucks a month?

Your linked article is dated Mar 14, 2014. Wasn't Obama president from 2009 to 2017?

Wtf does that have to do with anything? That bullshit has been going on forever.. There are tons of links regarding that subject. From all years.

Do you honestly think that it will be less perverse under the Trump administration? The guy who wants to fuck people at the bottom to give massive tax cuts to the rich and add trillions to the deficit?

Is that really OK with you?

I'm opposed to welfare in ANY form.

Not a dime.

Good for you.. That includes any sort of gubmint health care too.. So if you fell deathly ill today, you can guarantee absolutely that you wouldn't need any? If you had your coverage canceled and lost your job, you are completely self sufficient and would not possibly need any?

I retired 5 years ago at age 55.

Proper estate planning has allowed me to enjoy a very comfortable retirement.

So you've got a million or so saved up if, God forbid you ended up with some sort of cancer? Or worse?

Cow-sling-er doesn't understand the concept of accumulating wealth. He probably thinks you stole money from poor people, old ladies, and orphans. And never paid your "fair share" of taxes.

It's obvious he's one of life's losers who blame other people for his failure as a productive human being. He's a complete waste of time.

Doesn't your wife take care of you?

I can guarantee I make vastly more money than you. Maybe not the made up bullshit amount of your dumbass friend from californee, but I'm good with it.

I'd love to say more about Cowboy, but I'm currently on last warning...
