I have been working darn hard on a story about a writer and his beautiful secretary. But now i am stuck again, the two characters have each revealed a deep dark secret to each other.

The writer told her about the secret behind his penname. The secretary told the writer about the secret about her divorce from her alcoholic cheating husband.

Here is my problem where does the story go from there? They characters are currently sitting next to each other eating dinner in total silence after they have revealed their secrets.

p.s. i am sorry if i have been a pain in the neck to my fellow forum members thank you for your patience and your help.

I'd go into their thoughts. What are they each thinking about the secret that was just revealed? Does he feel all sorts of compassion for her and her past? Does she feel curiosity about his pen name? Maybe it gives her a secret lust.....

Have you involved alcohol at their dinner? I suggest you do, they're relaxed, got a little buzz which leads to the baring of their souls.

Now they are both a bit taken aback that they told their secrets, but the other is feeling good that they were trusted with said secret.

Perhaps a gesture f solace and comfort such as him taking her hand, an arm around the shoulder, this leads perhaps to a quick spontaneous kiss, which leads to a more passionate one then.....

Okay, any more and I may as well write it. Hope that gave you some ideas.

If they're sitting next to each other (i assume it's in a public place?) their knees brush. Who's POV, his or hers? If his, he can get hard from the slight touch. She notices her skirt has ridden up.. she reaches to pull it down a little but his hand stops her, his fingers lingering on the side of her knee. He glances at her, gauging her reaction and when she flashes him a shy smile he works his hand up...

I like the going into their thoughts suggestion - their questioning, should I have just opened up so much, what does s/he think of me now, wow, I can't believe s/he had such an experience, should I touch her/him, grab her/his hand...

I like the tension of the moment, both are perhaps feeling a bit vulnerable, afraid, and unsure... Let those emotions lead the way.

I trust you are in third person, as with your previous posting. If not it would be difficult to go with the excellent private thoughts idea.

and if he is taller, he may be able to peer down her cleavage, which makes him wonder what her nipples are like. As she reaches for her knife, she notices his napkin in his lap shifting...

Sitting opposite seems more conducive to dialogue, body language, flirting and innuendo. Eye contact... it's a ginormic chunk of seduction.

Take us through their thoughts as they dine together - the ex-wife of an alcoholic is going to have baggage to move beyond before she can enjoy herself with another man. His revelation seems considerably less personal than hers - is he even thinking of her as more than a co-worker? What will she have to overcome to relax and engage her boss? Does he realize it's a possibility? Is she prepared to seduce him? What kind of encounter are they moving towards - romantic, or one night they'll regret? So many ways you could go with this... your cry for help is vague, so these are just the thoughts off the top of my head.
