As far as the makeup goes, a lot of women still have makeup on from their day at work, and they don't bother to wash it off.

After 26+ years of marriage I can tell the difference between freshly applied makeup and makeup that's been on for hours. There's also the clue as to it being just applied: rouge and eyeliner on the shmedium shirt.
