Received this PM from amicus

PM removed due to being against forum policy The gist of the message was that amicus has supposedly gone to a lawyer to sue me for slander owing to my hyperbolic and bucolic post on his Bastard thread. I believe this is the legal means for which to describe it.

Pure comic gold I think. A mixture of hubris, "I am the State" mentality that is rife in neoconservative revolutionaries, and petty attempts at intimidation which paints a very vivid picture.

Note everything about this loverly PM. It's truly a work of art. I saw something it doesn't like, something that actually hurts it as it has hurt many of the members of this board over the years. Does it take it, does it even put it down as the angry ranting of another dumb liberal who hates amicus/Rand/America who are all the same?

No, it doesn't. It sends me this.

Enjoy.

Oh jeez....

I don't know whether it's flat out tragic or the funniest fucking thing in years...

"In law, defamation is a right of action for communicating statements that may harm an individual's reputation or character." Even if found to be slanderous, what reputation or character has been harmed here, exactly? A nickname on a porn board? Um, puh-leeeze.

First, the statements made have to be proven false. (Truth is not slander, after all.) Then, they have to be shown to have caused harm.

*snort*

It's laughable.

Ok so I went and read the post. Pretty graphic here and there. But...feh. I read worse on a daily basis.

OTOH, now yer posting a private PM publically (without the HFB's consent, I assume). Not sure that's kosher w Laurel, however dingbat-ish the PM may be. Just sayin.

Personally, I would have gone with the "terrified of women" angle.

But to each his own.

I thought it would be libel, not slander? You'd think his lawyer would know the difference, eh?

Amicus, remember what this board promotes? FREE SPEECH. Get over yourself.

I'll check with her. I always assumed that PMs were a board-enclosed form of email which is an electronic version of mail. Under those assumptions, one would keep PMs private because they are private communiques. One naturally wishes to keep these private to protect the statements of the person who sent you the mail and to perhaps protect your own and also because it was sent to just you. Normal letters, normal email, and normal PMs I protect with equal vigil and as a person I make the least uses of the forward tool or otherwise showing people my mails.

Nonetheless, if someone threatens me with legal action and is attempting gross intimidation, I see no reason to keep their communique private just as I would not if someone sent me a death threat over email or a court order by mail. At the very least I would show it to others for legal advice if I believed either genuine. Here, I find it all too humorous to be threatened. However on the same principles, the sender attempted to threaten me in private. They didn't want to post this publicly, but I do and as its in my "email-like" inbox I believe I can.

The Literotica FAQ states this about PMs: "Private messages work a little like email, but are limited to registered members of this forum. You may be able to include vB Code, smilies and images in private messages that you send."

I may be wrong though. I'll PM Laurel.

Fair enough. Off it goes.

If this is actually a rule, it is being broken constantly. Many of us, including myself, post feedback we have received to the Anonymous thread or the Best Feedback thread.

The post on top has been edited to remove an illegal posting of a PM by forum rules. Hopefully the vague synopsis is within rules, otherwise, I will replace the top statement with a blank statement of apology.

What do you mean "if"? There's a link at the bottom of every page in the forums that says "Forum Rules". :D

And there are thousands of posts made every day. Laurel can't keep track of all the rule violations. That's why there are "report this post" links on every posts as well.

The way the forum rules reads to me is that the main concern is revealing another's personal information, for which I have seen email addresses and entire posts removed by administrators before. Reposting emails and PM's happens quite frequently, and I've not seen the same type of response. As to the rest of the legal, I'm with Imp. It seems a far reach to have internet nicknames in a legal battle. Either way, I'm sorry this is happening. It makes discussing certain things with certain people feel off limits to me, and this is after all a place to discuss. Too bad.

It was always my understanding that vague synopses are OK. And you're right about another thing, too: Rule #5: Do not threaten other users. ;)

I'm peeking at your neeple. :p

Luc, you went too far when you introduced slander and enmity to one of the most credible and authoritative porn site message boards under the "L's." Apologize.

Edited to add:

In your PM to Laurel, ask if Lit can add an emoticon for "token nigger." It might save Amicus some unnecessary typing and be an effective gesture of good will.

I, for one, would be incredibly dissapointed if you changed...
