Amari's grandmother, Cynthia Allen, said she was "devastated" by Amari's account.

"I didn't know that these things still exist," she said. "We are in 2019 and these are things that I've either read about or heard about in my grandparents' or my mother's generations. It's painful.

I think that the thread title should have read:

"Press virtue signals and publishes another unverified sensationalistic story, for a buck".

The only connection to Jussie Smollet's and Nathan Phillips' cases, is the press's attitude.
Those two were scum, whereas her grandparents seemed like good, unassuming folks who genuinely believed their kid's lie.
