Extending the Airplane Laptop Ban

Dividing security checks into haves and have-nots is bad social policy, and we should actively fight any expansion of it. If the TSA implements this security procedure, it should implement it for every flight. And there should be no exceptions. Force every politically connected flier, from members of Congress to the lobbyists that influence them, to do without their laptops on planes. Let the TSA explain to them why they can't work on their flights to and from D.C.

If you have specific information and a specific pool of suspects in specified locations, then you punish everyone just to make it fair?

Considering there was the fellow who concealed explosives in his shoes. And that none of the 9/11 terrorists flew out of middle east countries this just seems to yet another xenophobic tactic aimed at Muslims. If you can't bring shampoo on a flight a large electronic piece of equipment seems a good thing to ban 'for everybody' not just ME origin flights.

Because political correctness says we can't go after the actual enemy demographic, we have to go after everyone to a point of absurdity. Like trying to tell Joe Foss he couldn't bring his Medal Of Honor on the airplane because the star had a sharp point on it.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Yeah, cos a bomb in the hold of an aircraft at 30000 feet is so much safer than one in the cabin.

Lit's Situational Native American has long advocated "collective punishment" for demographics he does not approve of (Muslims, Mexicans, etc).

Now, however, since the laptop ban potentially might impact his personal travel plans, he comes out strongly against collective punishment.

Gotta be another reason...he doesn't have a job to need a laptop and posting on lit is not a good enough excuse to carry a laptop on a plane

The usual posters started their usual routine:
"bbut but… Bad racists!"
"Therefore we should ban them on All flights, or not ban them at all."

But that isn't the right argument. This:
Quote: "And, two, banning laptops on selected flights just forces terrorists to buy more roundabout itineraries."

His 15+ years of 40-60 posts a day, 365 days a year, says otherwise.
His need to soapbox here is second only to the Sweet Transvestite.
