more advice. anyone out there own a 5 year-old?

when I was five I liked my pet monkey and playing dress up, oddly, not much has changed.

I liked blocks and dinosaurs. They all thought I was weird. *sniff*

Most 5 year olds are still in that messy phase...

Coloring, finger painting, helping to bake and such.

Powerpuff Girls and Barbie.

When I was five, I liked the nerf football and the bigwheel. I was a strange child.

Five year olds....lets see my daughter liked barbies and babies and oh they love polly pockets!

I would have to agree with this. I can't think of any five-year-old I ever met who didn't enjoy being an artist.

They like to have their imaginations engaged.

Read to them. Draw with them. Paint with them. Playdo with them. Pretend with them.

If you need to give a gift, the best one you can do is to get some kind of closable container, like a rubbermaid one, fill it with different kinds and sizes of paper, crayons in a lot of colors, watercolor paints, pencils, and coloring books.

Skip on markers and non-washable paints. Skip on glitter, glue, and scissors. She may be old enough, but let mom decide.

thanks kids

here's the thing...own, not owned...present tense. i also know you were five once too. i need to know what the spoiled little shits like today.

I think with the exception of certain toy fads, a five-year-old from today is the same as a five-year-old of any other era.

They like to be treated with respect, just like every other human being.

that's perfect muff, except for two things... 1. i've done that sort of thing before and 2. i'd ratherher mom hated it. (which is exaclty why i did it. (too bad all the permanent markers out there are toxic))

Wait, so we're looking for some kind of devious, backhanded gift?

Polly Pockets was a good suggestion. Also, anything pink or princess themed. Hmm, tea sets are fun but you have to resign yourself to sitting down to a cup of fake tea and cookies.

not at all...visions of her cleaning up are just gravy.

the kid draws on everything, the furniture, the walls, the floor, clothes, the dog...
