Morality imposed on Fantasy?

Of late I have posted a number of stories here on Literotica, and must admit that the positive feedback is somewhat addicting. Who doesn't like to be complimented, especially on something as personally involved as writing? I have heard from more people than I would have thought with positive feedback, perhaps even a flirtation or two.

I got one today that just kind of makes me scratch my head. In my story "Keeping Her Promise" it details an online affair between two married people that evolves into a real life encounter.

I have received a number of replies chastizing an affair of married people. I have a few questions.

If you're so moral to begin with, what the hell are you doing on an internet site that exists exclusively for erotic content?

Do you understand the difference between fantasy and reality?

And finally, if someone is going to impose whatever thoughts, moral or otherwise to an "Author" (I use that as a broad stroke when referring to myself) then do they do the same to any other Author that uses infidelity or another immoral behavior in their writings? If so I'm guessing that the mailboxes at Harlequin Romance are full of such folks aghast at the behavior of the characters in their books.

I don't get these people, and quite frankly they just plain piss me off. I guess I should have solace in the fact that they don't have the guts to even sign their name or leave a return email.

Sorry, I just needed to vent.

There's no accounting for human behavior is all.

I haven't gotten too much of this kind of feedback, but I've gotten enough to know how annoying and irrational it can be. Sometimes I think these are people who are extremely conflicted about reading porn, so they read your story, get themselves off, then take out their self-hatred on the author, as if it's his fault. The feedback I've received like this always has a tinny kind of sanctimony and self-rightiousness. Some of it really borders on the psychotic.

If they won't even sign their name . . .

Fuck 'em!

(Well, you'd better not, because that would cause a morality conflict!)

I received feedback once where the gentleman responding was very angry that I made my characters tall.

I thought he was joking. He did leave his name and email, so i sent back a joking response and he became more irate.

"How come every writer on this site makes their characters tall? That just isn't right!"

I don't know - my husband is tall, I'm fairly tall. Damn! Apparently I struck a nerve with that guy, which is probably what happened with you.

Interestingly enough, though, I have heard other authors comment on the same exact thing you are talking about. Some readers send them feedback to berate them for breaking up supposedly happy marriages.

Perhaps they do not recognize FICTION???

Tall??????

Next someone will be sending SSS feedback because the character didn't have freckles.

Since when do fantasies have to be equal opportunity? (except in the group sex category, I suppose)

I think marriage is a difficult issue, and I admit I wouldn't enjoy reading something like that, even though I know others would. But hey, that is what the back button is for.

People have issues . . .

Often I think our readers forget this is just smut!

Personally, I don't want to read stories about infidelity or marriages breaking up. I'm happily married, stories that make me a bit uncomfortable.

BUT - that is my quirk, not the writer's problem!

I remember getting feedback once from someone who said (and I'm paraphrasing - lol)

"I loved the story. It was great where she sucked him and then he fucked her in the pussy and I really liked it when he fucked her ass over the couch. But he really should have cum in her mouth. Write more stories where the man cums in her mouth. I really like to read stories where he cums in her mouth."

Um - OK?

:D

I can almost (but not quite) top that one...

My Innocent Pawn series is about a female sub in the non-consent category. So I get this email telling me there should be more females dom males. Alrighty then.

LOL!

The things we sacrifice for our readers . . .

*sigh*

Okay, which one of you smarty pants sent me this comment?

LOL!

"Dam" that spell checker, anyway!

:D

I felt like: Is that it? Nothing else? No other mistakes? Are you sure? No?

And who needs a spell check when you have friendly fellows like this online?

It cracked me up, surely it has to be a prank??

Surely it's a joke!

But then, someone would have teased you about it on a thread, don't you think?

Only cowards refuse to leave their name on feedback comments!

What if it wasn't a prank?

LOL

Perhaps someone felt so strongly about my terrible spelling that they could no longer stand by quietly...

Thus they felt compelled to share their wit and wisdom with you.

Geez, if I make only one grammatical error during a story I'm thrilled!

:D

I get those typo wizards too. And I know from my work that if I'm sub-editing a piece for typos, I'm not concentrating as much on how it reads and I'm too focussed on spelling and grammar to really enjoy it. So I'm thinking these typo wizards on Lit are not doing it properly.

Plus, do they really think I'm going to go to the trouble of re-submitting an entire story to correct one glitch?

I think on the morality thing, though, there is justification for someone who believes in the sanctity of marriage. They could come here to read about marital sex and it wouldn't be necessarily hypocritical under their moral code. I think our moralities vary greatly, I mean I come here and both write and read stories and I certainly don't feel comfortable reading incest stories or non-consent stories.

Difference is, though, I don't click on those stories and certainly don't go to the trouble of sending feedback to their authors stating that I don't agree with this or that morality issue. That's just plain nuts!

MS: these typo wizards on Lit are not doing it properly

LOL

Couldn't have said it better myself.

I just thought they could have added a bit more, like "you suck and so does your spelling"!

Yeah, about morality - back click rather than sermonise! But then, free speach and all... and also perhaps you touched someone strongly that they felt that had to send feedback and all that crap?

Okay, I feel better

I guess it's not just me, I appreciate you all venting your spleens on this topic. Isn't there a section of the forum for story suggestions? I would much rather work from that were I in need of subject matter than to have someone either impose their own morality, or even worse suggest changes for the story line.

Here were a few of the more choice ones.

"You should have made the foreplay longer"

"You should have involved another male in the story"

"You created an amazing buildup, an incredible tease and then just screwed it all up with the sex scene at the end"

"Keeping her Promise? How about slut wife tales? Stories like yours keep me working, I'm a divorce attorney"

While I would love to think something I wrote was powerful, I don't imagine it's created or caused any divorces. But then, who knows?

I guess those who can, write, those who can't, read and critique. My Mother always told me not to say anything at all if you didn't have something nice to say. While that's always worked for me, I can't expect that from others I guess.

Am I being too sensitive? Probably, someone just hold me.

Thanks Again,

Ben

morality on fantasy

I agree with you. Most of the feedback I get is great, but I have had some feedback from people who get all over my case. They say I'm a bad guy and ought to be in jail because they think I'm out of my mind for writing stories about blackmail and stalking. Hell, they are only fantasy stories but I must do a pretty good job to get people so wound up. Check out my stories and see what ya think.
