I'm trying to set up a "taken & used by a demon" scene for someone, and I'd love to be able to get my hands on some good, spooky-sounding low chanting. I don't think Gregorian will work - too easily recognizable as not being evil.

I'm exercising my Google search-fu, of course, but I haven't come up with anything yet. Anyone have any suggestions?

(on a related note, these are pretty interesting.. I'll order one in red for her.)

I personally find it beautiful, but for people who have never heard Tibetan monks overtone singing, it's very disturbing. I would slip some into a world music radio show I did in college periodically and I *always* got a "what the hell IS this????" phone call or ten.

I'd go for Diamanda Galas, Plague Mass or Schrei X if I wanted to really scare the shit out of someone.

Hmm. Those could work. I was thinking about something that had some low, underlying urgency - the opening theme for Koyaniskatsi (here) has a bit of it.

I've been meaning to get some Diamonda Galas for a long time now. I'll keep investigating her, and check out Plague Mass a bit more.

A bit more about the overall goal: She has a thing for Tim Curry's character from the movie Legend, and I'm trying to set up a surprise for her. She knows Koyaniskatsi, she knows most Gregorian stuff, and she's up on her occult, so finding something that doesn't have a lot of preset assumptions built into it is difficult.

Actually, I've been trying to practice overtone stuff myself. However, having a demon show up in a scene and just sorta make weird inarticulate noises - regardless of the number 'voices' used - isn't that impressive. Maybe after I practice a bit more...
