Bonjour!
So, I'm in Montreal. I have to admit that the bi-lingual situation freaked me out a little at first (easy to do). Someone would say "Bonjour!" and I'd go all deer-in-the-headlights thinking "Do I respond in French or English?" (Hey, I scare easy when people talk to me).
But we took a long walk the other day and saw the older section of the city and such, and I'm really warming up to it. I love that there are planters of flowers almost everywhere and so even though it's very much a stone city, it overflows with flowers. There's wonderful old architecture (no big for a lot of you, I know, but LA is a young city and we don't got a lot of that), lotta folk on bikes, and a very cosmopolitan population.
It's also been a bit humid with on/off summer showers. Oh, and my husband has discovered absinthe.
Very charming. And it helps that I've now had some nice lunches, including one of my all time faves, Duck Confit, which is rarely on the menu in L.A. except at upscale restaurants, but which can be found in most mid-scale places here as a regular feature. Here was lunch. Duck confit with frites and greenbeans.

I are happy.
The "duck" reference is from a Steve Martin's L.A. Stories (satire it might be, but it really captures L.A.), where Martin is trying to make reservations at an outrageous restaurant called "L'Idiot." The French owner insists on meeting Martin at his bank to make sure he can afford the meal. Played by Patrick Stewart, the owner haughtily informs him that he can't afford the duck...he can have the chicken.
