Could I have been in the presence of the great Laurel herself last weekend?

I was parked near Cannery Row in Monterey, CA, last Sunday, and I did a double-take and triple-take, had to keep looking, couldn't believe my eyes. But there it was, a few cars down from mine, California license plate LTROTCA. Was that you, Laurel? Or one of your many, MANY fans?

Holy Shit!

No, that wasn't me, but I'd love to know who it was. That's wild!

I'would've loved to be in Monterey today. I love Monterey. There's the most amazing aquarium there. Stroll down Fisherman's Wharf, go antique shopping, eat fish for lunch...damn. What a perfect little town.

No matter how stressful the work-week, sitting in front of the big glass-wall tank at the aquarium (where we're members), watching the giant tunas, sharks, turtles, and sun-fish, just MELTS away my cares. Even calms down our hyperactive son, I've been taking him there since he was an infant. Watching the amazing motion of the jellyfish. Watching the penguins stand around like they are holding a town meeting. Sit on the beach and watching the waves and the kayakers. Watch the kids climb around the old locomotive at Dennis the Menace Park (land donated to the city of Monterey by cartoonist Hank Ketchum). Stroll hand-in-hand with my sweetie down Fisherman's Wharf, each get a steaming cup of hot clam chowder. Sit out on the wharf and listen to the seals calling to each other. Window shop along the old cannery row. Shows in front of the old Customs House (I got my bellydancing outfit because we watched bellydancers there). The organ-grinder and his monkey who are ALWAYS in front of Fishermen's Wharf. Yes, an amazing town. Frank & I honeymooned there, hottest day in recorded history of Monterey! Spent the morning playing in the big in-room tub (too hot to go out), keeping cool except for heating each OTHER up! Then up the coast a bit to Roaring Camp, steam train through the redwoods, MUCH cooler there that day! Headed across to Capitola, quaint little town with a picturesque little beach, and the most amazing romantic little restaurant with a little trolley to take you down the hill to the dining room.

So MANY great memories.

Sorry it wasn't you. Wonder who LTROTCA is?

The PCH, from Santa Cruz to Monterey, is one of the most scenic and enjoyable drives I've ever taken--hope to do so again, soon..

I wish I'd discovered this place when I lived in Monterey. My tags were Alaska, so it wasn't me.
