I hate Monday mornings.....

Monday sucks. I have to get up at 4. Wake up. Fight the traffic for almost an hour while trying to get to Charlotte (NC). Then I have to stare at 20 to 30 pissed off kids. They hate Mondays also. Not only do I have to stare at them but someone will expect me to actually do something with them. Nothing like trying to engage a bunch of tired teenagers on Monday morning.

At least I have the secure knowledge that I will be highly compensated for what I do. :D

Then of course there is the mandatory staff meeting after school. Every Monday we get to hear the same thing we heard last Monday.

Then once again into the fire of I-85 for an hour. At least southern drivers are courteous. :D

Damn I have a bad attitude today. Maybe I should just go back to bed...

BLUE MONDAY, HOW I HATE BLUE MONDAY

Don't be silly. Monday's cool. Oh wait. My bad. I only like Mondays because I'm off from work.
Aw well, carry on.

Monday Monday

Means another week of classes, another exam in psych, more writing for journalism ... more driving to campus .. and most likely more drizzle ... nothings worse than a cold, drizzly monday ...

Haaaaaaaaaaay.... I live in NC.... and just moved from Charlotte. Whew... I sure am glad you didn't take I-77. You'd be in an EVEN worse mood! *DUCK* :p

Hey sch00lteacher since you have experience in this I would like your opinion on something. For a long time me and a few of my friends have been dicussing whether or not it would be better to change the times that schools start. Right now in my area HS starts at 7:25, MS starts at either 7:25 or 8:15 depending on the school and elementary school starts at 9:05. I have always taken it as a fact that teenage brains don't really get going untill 9 or 10 am. I am not so old that I forget being a teenager, so I am pretty confident in that. In addition at least from observing the young childern of friends it sure seems that little kids like getting up early. 6 or 7 AM is fun to then and they have no problem getting up since most of them go to bed by 10 PM.

So what do you think? Would it make more sense for HS to start later in the day and Elementary school to start earlier?

Most high school kids have jobs. Even though most states, even NC, have laws regulating the hours they work, many of my kids work past midnight. They just can't find anyone else to work those hours. So yeah, start high school later in the day. Let the kids work their evening jobs. They are going to anyhow.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO, it's awful, hornedous, aboslutely wretched to try and teach elementary students at 7:30 in the morning. Our entire district went to 7:30 start times for elementary this year and ALL the teachers hate it. The kids aren't really awake at that time and the usual separation from Mom is even worse.

It depends on what you consider compensation. I had a banner day today, five hugs, one orange, one pretty please, and one "you're the best teacher ever."

Howdy there schoolteacher. I live down 85 from ya and traffic on I-85 South (from Concord and points north) sucks. Though I must say in the morning both ways it sucks, just sucks worse coming from Concord or points North of Concord, NC.

Yah... tell me about it! I used to live in Concord and work in Gastonia. Up and down and up and down I-85 5 days a week... argh...

I think they should start middle and elemantry schools at the same time. Probably around 8 or 8:15. Then start HS slightly later around 8:45 or so maybe 9 depending on the district.

They won't do that though because then they would have to spend more money on more buses and bus drivers. Then people would bitch cause they would have to raise taxes or vote in some kind of education grant/loan.

i don't remember how to write it in latin but there is a saying that tuesdays are usually worse.

just thought i'd hand out that little ray of sunshine!

THAT is the only compensation that really counts, and keeps me in the profession. It sure isn't the money. :)

What is it from Speedway to 485? People have forgotten how to merge I guess. I'm up near Salisbury. Traffic doesn't get bad until Concord.

You had to drive all the way through town? Oh man, no way. Once I-85 turns into what 4, 5 lanes, people start driving like total idiots. Nascar time baby. I am glad you don't have to do that any longer.

They always talk about how tired the kids are. How about us? I must have slept 6 hours last night. Not straight through either. If it wasn't for caffine... God bless caffine. It does all come down to bussing. In a big city like Charlotte some of my students get on the bus before 5 a.m. and they don't get home till 5 or 6 in the afternoon. But in a smaller district I don't see why they couldn't push the whole deal back. But then you have parents who need to push their kids out the door so they can get to work... There are always so many problems for and against that most districts end up leaving things as is.

I hate Tuesday mornings also.

I guess I just hate mornings period. Except for Fridays. I love Friday because it means that the WEEKEND IS HERE! I used to work swing shift. Now that was great. Sleep in as late as you want. Stay up as late as you want. All the bosses are home...
