It seems many people have down periods around Christmas/New Year season for no particular reason at times, at times because of loved ones who are no longer with us. For some reason I have found my brain flooded with nostalgic memories of late which I did not expect. As most are to do with my father, they bring a strange mixture of both sadness and warmth but are welcomed because the warmth is far more comforting than the sadness is debilitating, and perhaps it is because I am ready to let these moments in time wash over me freely and in a healing way. So, I thought for others who may also have special memories they wish to share,( not necessarily tied to this time of year), and to perhaps create a little loving joy and gratitude in what we have, I would open this thread.
So some of the memories which have been most vivid for me are:
*the many nights while I was a single mother and either stayed over night at my parents or they at my home and my father would tell me to wake him at 3am in the morning so he could join me to watch the Motorcycle GP...my mother thought we were nuts, but it was a rare moment we shared and bonded.
* the first time he took me fishing when I was about 4, and my catching my first fish and being shocked.
* the day of my first marriage when we were alone in the car on the way to the church and my father told me he couldn't believe how beautiful I looked. (he was a man of very few words so it was a surprise)
* the look of love and wonderment on his face the first time he nursed both my children in the hospital the day of their birth, and then the same look when he first held my granddaughter and his only great grandchild.
These moments now seem like such gifts to me.
