Background: I took over GTO_Racer's Damage Control series story (With his permission) and put up chapters 5 and 6 for publishing. Chapter 6 got published before chapter 5 did. I woke up this morning to find that chapter 6 had been pulled back to pending status, but that chapter 5 had been published.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Only Laurel, the submissions editor, can. She can (only) be reached by Private Message (message system at the top right of this page, if you have PMs turned on).

Could be a matter of timing. If you submit several chapters at the same time, they usually go up one per day, in chapter sequence. They may have put 6 up, then realized it was out of order.

Probably to keep it sequential but that’s just a guess. Does the pending story have a date?

Now, I may be wrong. From what I have read on the forum, this is done to evenly distribute chapters. The logic being so that a author can't simultaneously post 25 chapters of the same story, dominating the new stories page. They will be posted a day apart in order, assuming that they are approved by the moderators. As KeithD said, only Laurel can know for sure. I am just recalling the FAQs I've read before I posted my first story.

Thanks to everyone for the information. :D

If you submit all chapters at the same time, Laurel will vett them all together, then set a 24 hour timer on the release clock, so they each go out a day apart.

I'm guessing in the case of the OP, there was a sequencing mix up which Laurel spotted and corrected.

^^^ 'Cudda swore somebody already said that. B-)
MColton was vague, recalling FAQs but wasn't 100% sure. I was precise, having done it, and therefore knew exactly what happens. MColton is right - if you submit all chapters together, Laurel will release them a day apart. Or you can release each chapter yourself, but you won't get them a day apart because they'll be in different places in the queue.

I appreciate your adding to what I said. I took no offense to your elaboration. I was speaking from a vague memory, that you cemented with facts. Thanks.

Series Uploaded All Wrong

Hi new author here! I've been looking for hours for the right place to ask this and this topic seems to fit best. My series was uploaded out of order and labeled wrong. Parts 1 and 3 were placed together as a "Two Part series" then Part 2 was posted by itself. Will this fix itself if I wait? Part 4 is in pending status now as well.
Thank you for any help you all have.

There are bugs in the existing code that have become more prevalent as the infrastructure for the updated version of the website was installed. Nothing is going to fix itself — that's for certain.

Looking at your titling, I don't see any errors you made. Looks to be entirely the code that messed up.

The only way it can be fixed is for Manu to go in and do it manually. You could try using the report button on the one story that's outside the series, and in the "reason" box, state that it's incorrectly assigned as a standalone. As a chapter 2, it's rather important that it be included in the series, even if it is on the page. Doing it that way will give those behind the scenes a lot more data than you'll be able to provide in a private message, likely making a correction easier.

I think the most assured way to unravel this is to send a PM to Laurel explaining what seems to be wrong.
