Modern Comedy/Drama Chain Story Idea

We’ve all seen the tabloids. Nowadays, even the ‘legitimate’ media tends to cover the ins and outs of Hollywood relationships. But what about those who don’t qualify as starlets? Do we ever notice all of those extras sitting at the café in the background? What if no one realized that there’s a woman under table three giving someone head as the shot took place? And what, or should we say “who,” is the “key grip” really holding? Surrounded by all the trappings of a major studio, it seems that everyone is getting it on except the director.

“Hollyquirk Studios” would be a chain story focused around the filming of a disaster laden movie. There’s the potential for both comedic and drama filled chapters. Not to mention lots of good ol’ fashion sex. For the most part, characters will probably be proprietary, meaning if you create ‘em the other authors would need to discuss with you before using them for anything more than reference or passing (non-erotic) cameos. Some characters, however will be marked as “open” meaning anyone can use them.

The chapters of the story will be titled “Hollyquirk Studios: Week #” (open to discussion). The proposed schedule will be for a chapter a week, to be posted under the “Chain Stories” category, with tags mentioning any related sub-categories for individual chapters. If you are interested in joining, please post in this thread.

Here's a quick breakdown of some of the roles involved in a movie...I've already started a little on "Week 0" and have the characters decribed from that one...You'll note that out of the five characters I created, I've listed three of them as "open" ;)

I'll keep this post updated when more characters become filled in...

Edited for "Week 4"

Hollyquirk Studios

Tragic Tactics Credits
Executive Producer: Kara Evercum; She is the voice of the mysterious “Studio Head,” though some are convinced that the ideas and mandates that she passes along are her own creations. It’s a fairly well known ‘secret’ that she’s sleeping with the writer of the movie. The two have been dating for months, but wish to keep their relationship a secret, at least until post-production, when they can claim to have formed their relationship during filming. She has, full, curly red hair. (Deathlynx)

Writer: Dirk Dullwood; An unknown in Hollywood. Dirk got this break by presenting his script to his girlfriend, Kara Evercum. He’s managed to convince her to keep their relationship a secret, for propriety’s sake. The real truth is he’s sleeping around, and if no one knows to tell Kara, he can have his cake and eat it too. He’s heavily into BDSM with Cassy Sunt and enjoys hurting her, especially when they have sex. (Deathlynx)

Producer:
Director: Maxwell McGrath; This is Max’s big break. Up until now, he’s been directing commercials and rock videos. Although sure this will make his career, one of the things he’s most excited about is the prospect of the ‘casting couch.’ Unfortunately, every time he seems so near to final prize, something always seems to come up. Amidst the orgy of affairs and relationships, he alone seems to be celibate. He’s a simple man with simple needs. Although he pretends to want all of the flash and trappings of Hollywood life. (Open Character)

Lead Actor: Hans Brickhead; (Available)

Lead Actress: Susan Swansong; A star past her prime? Not so. Her red hair and dark blue eyes have lost none of their luster. When the previous lead was driven from the production by constant editing difficulties, she gladly moved in to revitalize her career. (MagicaPractica)

Supporting Actor:
Supporting Actress: Reese Willingfuck; A young up and ‘cummer’ willing to sleep her way into better screen coverage. The green-eyed, brunette is currently sleeping with the Cinematographer to get more and better screen time than her leading counterpart. (RedHairedandFriendly)

Ensemble:
Tiffany Tufts (Extra); She’s out to sleep her way to the top of the business. No person is beyond the pale if she thinks it will get her a better role. Blond, blue eyed, curvaceous and always seen in the tightest, most revealing, clothing that society will permit. (Open Character, we’re talking legs, mouth, ass. All WIDE open ;) )

Stunts:
Ilsa Tautfanny; One of the few stuntwomen involved in the movie. She has a penchant for wirework, only it tends to make her randy. Fortunately, her affair with Steven Silverwood can take care of that. (Only_moreso)

Crew:
Casting:
Cinematographer: Anthony Longslide; This slightly balding man, with salt an pepper hair, is good at his job. But he’s also more than willing to sacrifice his ‘art’ when the opportunity presents itself in the form of the advances of the young supporting actress. (RedHairedandFriendly)

Director’s Assistant: Patience Serenity; Young, naive and very sweet. She is currently without a boyfriend and would never think of sleeping with a guy without a few dates under their belt. Unfortunately she seems to go unnoticed by everyone, despite a mousy charm. She is very organized and manages to juggle Max’s schedule despite the constant changes. She has long, dirty blond hair and brown eyes. (Deathlynx)

Editor:
Chief Pyrotechnics:

Chief SFX: Steve Silverwood; Very skilled with CGI, he’s been having to deal with the constant changes to the script even more than most in this production. Fortunately for him, Ilsa is more than willing to help him vent his tension behind the scenes. (Only_moreso)

Sound Engineer:
Chief Carpenter: Woody Dickerson; Tall, handsome, and dignified. He’s been lucky enough to catch the eye of the new lead female. (MagicaPractica)

Carpenters:
Cameraman:
Brandon Longslide: The Cinematographer’s son and a budding young cameraman trying to break into the industry. (RedHairedandFriendly)

Key Grip:
Best Boy Grip:
Boom Operator:
Dolly:
Gopher:
Production Assistants:
Jackson Arseton; A young PA just out of college desperate to make it in the industry. He and Patience have begun dating. (Deathlynx)

Catering:
Cassy Sunt; A bombshell of a green-eyed brunette. This triple-D knockout is known as the ‘catering bitch from hell.’ Although terrifying in public, she completely submissive in private, but only if the man can show himself strong enough. Dirk is currently having a secret affair with her, punctuated by frequent explosions in public to draw aside suspicions. (Deathlynx)

With Laresa coming to a close. I'm in the mood for another chain. . .I'll join up. :) If'n you'll have me. :D *blinks innocently*

But of course! I'd love to work with you on this...I think I see it as a sort of sit-com honestly... :D

I'm interested, but reluctant to join in on another chain thread right now. I'm tempted though.

I can understand the reluctance...Only so much time to write, and deadlines get to be a nervewracking experience...It probably won't start for a little while though, as things take a little while to wind up...

So is this a movie about disasters or a movie where nothing seems to go right during filming?

Deffinately more lighthearted than Laresa, but I'm hoping to get at least a little of the continuation feel from that chain...Although there's certainly room in this one for some dramatic scenes...

Well, if there's any questions I can answer feel free to ask...

The later...one of the ongoing "disasters" is that the studio is constantly asking for rewrites so the actual plot itself tends to keep changing... lol

Oh, and I thought people might like a sneak peek of some of what's writen for the first chapter...

Maxwell McGrath looked around his new office with pride. Although most of the pre-production legwork was already done, the studio had only finally gotten around to giving him an office to work out of. Although they claimed they had been waiting for the space to become available, Max suspected it had more to do with ensuring the project would actually get to this stage. He’d had to sooth some egos, more than once, to keep the movie on track, but that was little consideration.

This was it, at last. After years of directing commercials, and the occasional rock video, he finally had a chance at the movies. Max collapsed into the comfortable chair, behind the solid wood desk; his desk! While the desk was impressive, it wasn’t the piece of furniture he was most excited about. Ever since he’d become a director, the leather couch, with delightfully soft cushions, had sat in his basement in anticipation of this day.

It was his ‘casting couch.’ Commercials had mostly been small time, nothing big enough to warrant lewd acts to get a role. Besides, most of the commercials he’d done centered around kids and animals, and he certainly wasn’t perverse enough to take interest in that. While the music videos showed promise, all of the attractive young women sought the beds of the musicians themselves. He barely merited listening to when he tried to clear the set of all of the groupies.

No. This was it! This was his chance, not only to make a name for himself, but maybe get a little action in the process. As if on cue, the intercom on his phone buzzed. “Mr. McGrath?” Who else would be listening in his office? Patience had seen him come in, alone. “Your first appoint is here Mr. McGrath.” Patience, his personal assistant, was a sweet kid and he could hear the pride in her voice that rivaled his own.

Max glanced down at his desk to see a folder sat in the center of his blotter. A quick glance at the tab told him the appointment was a ‘Tufts, Tiffany.’ He flipped open the folder even as he reached to press the intercom button. “Send her in, if you would.” A very attractive blond smiled up at him from the head-shot in the open folder. That told him all he really needed to know. This was a last minute interview for an extra. He couldn’t quite keep the twinkle from his eye as he grinned at the couch. Thoughts of christening it properly, during his first appointment, floated through his head. That was probably why he had scheduled the woman so early.

The door opened and he knew, with certainty, that it had been exactly what he had intended. Max had to struggle to keep his jaw from dropping. Her head-shot didn’t do her justice. He was pretty sure no camera in the world would ever do her justice, but that was fine with him. He rather preferred the view he had. Her long, blond, hair cascaded across her shoulders and fell halfway down her back. When she reached up to tuck it behind her ears, the smooth, clear, features of her face shined; full red lips and deep blue eyes in delightful contrast.

But it was far more than that which almost stole the muscle control in his jaw. She dressed to enhance her hourglass figure. Her large breasts strained against the skintight shirt. The dark circles of her areola shone through the thin white fabric. In the cool spring weather, her nipples thrust forward and left nothing to the imagination.

Because I'm as good with my tongue as I am with a keyboard? :p

A little random bump and grind here... ;)

They'd have to borrow me too. :p
I don't think a lot of the women here would have a problem with that...In fact, they'd probably want to borrow you instead of me :p

Heya hun. *hugs*

Just trying to promote this, I know hubby is really looking forward to this.

I'm a big fan of movies, and even wrote a shortish Lit story that took place on the set. I've never really tried a chain story though, but am curious about giving it a try.

It should be a lot of fun...I was nervouse when I joined Laresa, but it turned out to be a lot of fun...I know I'd expected something different from chains going in and found it much easier than I'd feared...If you have any questions about it feel free to PM me or simply ask here... :cathappy:

I've formed three (Dry Valley, On the Bus, Laresa) and participated in one other (AH Fantasies). I've enjoyed them all. Some are really easy to slide into, others take a bit of work. In the end though I have had fun and have gotten to work with some outstanding writers.

I think it is worth doing at least once.

Well, Laresa was a little more intensive as the authors worked at making sure the chapters moved from one to the next...but it was certainly a lot of fun...not to mention introduced me to a lot of very nice people :rose:

I've also written in the Virtual Realities Chain which is pretty free form...One concept that connects the stories (much like the AH Fantasies) but no other real connection between chapters...This one will be sort of between the two...there need be little connection between chapters unless you want to...That's what the open characters are there for...

I think it is worth doing at least once.
I completely agree with that...it's been such a great time I felt the urge to create one :)
