About: Scarlet is the wife of Tom Winters. He used to be a good man but she didn't see much of the old him anymore. He was abusive, a drunk and a druggy. Scarlet tried hard to make her marriage work but she was falling out of love with him. Things were pretty bad financially for them, Tom had got them in debt with the wrong type of person. He was in debt with the Mob Boss.

Scarlet was home on her own. Tom was god knows where probably out of her head. She had just got home from work. She worked hard and did so many hours to try and get enough money for him to pay his debts off. He lost his job a year ago and hadn't even tried to find another job. She was the only one bringing money in and she never got to see any of it. She was in the kitchen with a glass of wine. She sipped on her wine trying to forget all her stresses. She was feeling pretty hopeless. She was sick of her life. She was sick of Tom. She knew she deserved better than him. She just didn't know what she could do to get away from all of this stress. She was feeling done with everything but she wouldn't leave. She didn't have the strength to walk out on her husband. She was loyal wife even though Tom did not deserve it at all.

Tom entered in a foul mood. The track had been unkind to him yet again. His sure thing in the third race had proven to be a second-place finisher. If the damn jockey hadn't let up in the last dozen lengths....

He entered from the garage into the kitchen. His expression soured as his eyes fell upon his wife. What a waste of fucking space. Oh sure, she'd looked pretty good a dozen years ago, but now she was just another drab, thirty-something housewife.

Scratch that. Housewives were usually good for something around the house Not his Scarlet.

"What the fuck are you doing? Just sitting around drinking?!" He bellowed at her, dimly cognizant that the three beers on his breath made him slightly hypocritical. "I'm out trying to earn us some money and you're just sitting on your fat ass!"

"Well, I'm fucking hungry. Make me a sandwich. Or do you need another reminder about who's the boss around here?" Tom drew his right arm to his ear, promising a swift backhand should she fail to obey.

"I've been working all day Tom and I just wanted one drink." Scarlet said. She could smell beer on Tom breath. "You mean you were throwing away money. I'm the only one making money for us and you waste it. You do nothing for us." She said. She was so annoyed with him. She looked at him as she tucked her hair behind her ears.

He told her he was hungry and threatened her. She got on her feet. "Fine I'll make you a sandwich." She said. She shook her head walking into the kitchen. She began making him a sandwich. "I'm guessing you spent the money I gave you to pay some of your debt off on whatever you've been doing." She said.

She was making his sandwich. She brought it to him. She saw a black town car pulling up to the house. She saw two goon like men getting out in suits and then a guy who she had seen before. She knew he was the man her husband owned so much debt too. "There here now and you have no money to give them because you wasted the money." She said.

Tom's backhand caught her just below her left eye. "Shut your fucking mouth!" The sandwich and plate tumbled to the floor with a crash.

Tom lunged for his wife. Despite his somewhat heavy build, he could move with considerable speed when his dander was up. Losing his temper seemed to be a fairly regular occurrence lately.

He snagged her arm before she could dart away. His free hand slapped her again. "Mouthy bitch! Always have something to say, don't you?" He slapped her again, her cheek now turning a bright crimson - precursor to the purplish bruise that would follow.

The doorbell rang, but Tom ignored it. He gave Scarlet another belt across the face. His yelling continued, but his words were so garbled by rage as to be unrecognizable.

Tom's hand just caught under Scarlet's eye. He told her to shut up. The plate fell to the ground and the sandwich landed on the floor. He lunged at her. She knew he was angry. He was pretty much angry all the time. She was always walking on eggshells. She was scared of him and his anger. He pulled her arm hard. He slapped her again and shouted at her. "Tom stop it." She said. Her eyes teared up. He hit her again. Her cheek was turning bright red. He then hit her once again.

She was sick of him hurting her. She hated how he thought giving her a back hand was okay. Scarlet pulled away from him. The banging on the door was louder. She went off to the door. She went to the door. She opened the door. She was intimidated by the big men stood at her door. "Tom is inside." She said. She stood to the side letting them in. She didn't know what was going to happen. She knew her husband didn't have the money to pay them so things could get

Tommy knew better than to get mouthy with the pair of bruisers who entered. Smacking around his wife was one thing, but these two were built like fire hydrants.

"Tommy," mumbled one. His voice seemed seismic, like an avalanche was approaching. "You got Mr. Bandini's money? The answer better be 'yes'."

Scarlet was shaking a little scared. She felt so uneasy. Tommy was making her panic and these guys weren't making it better. She looked at Mr Bandini. "I don't have the money." Tommy said. "Please don't hurt him. He's not a bad man he's just gone down the wrong path at the moment." She said. She looked at Mr Bandini wondering what he was going to do seeing as they had no money to give to him. Tommy really made her angry right now because he had put them in this position.

"I asked you a question, Tommy. You got Mr. Bandini's money."

Tommy shook his head. "Yeah, but it's tied up right now. If I can have a few more days...."

The bruiser turned to his colleague. "Hey, Vinnie, he says he don't got it, but he can get it. You think he's telling the truth?"

Vinnie shrugged. "Maybe. Ask him again, Pauly."

Pauly punched Tommy in the belly. Tommy collapsed in a groaning heap. "Tell me again - you got the money."

Tommy groaned. Pauly shrugged; he'd clearly been through this routine before. He picked Tommy up by the hair and slapped him vigorously across the face. "Speak up. Where's the money?" He repeated the slap and the inquiry half a dozen times.

Tommy at last managed speech again. "She's got it! Bitch always has money."

Vinnie's hand placed a firm grip on Scarlet's collarbone. "Ah, so it's a family thing. You got Mr. Bandini's money, lady?"

"You coward. You'd rather your wife deal with your mess than deal with it yourself like a real man." Scarlet said looking at Tommy. Her blood was boiling. She couldn't believe the way he was anymore. She was done with him. Her eyes were watery. She looked at Vinnie. "I gave him the money but he wasted it. Don't hurt me please he's already done it enough." She said. She had many bruises on her body. She was scared. She did not know what was going to happen but right now she didn't care what happened to Tommy. Tommy wasn't the man she wanted or loved anymore. She lost that man to drugs and alcohol and there was no going back.

Vinnie gave a lukewarm smile. It was always the same with these types.

"Pauly, you see if you can jangle anything lose from him. I'll give the wife a run-through. First one to talk might get to keep walking."

His fist caught her just beneath the rib cage. He found that having them gasp for air tended to soften up their resistance. "Where's the money, lady?

His fist hit beneath her rib cage. He made her jump. She gasped out. "He spent it, I swear. I'm not lying. He's an ass. Please don't hurt me." She said. She looked at him. She shook scared. She was so frightened. Her heart raced and her palms were sweaty. "Please stop it. He's the one who needs his ass kicking. He's a screw up. I've not done anything wrong." She said.

"What do you say, Tommy? Your wife telling the truth?" Pauly slapped the husband dismissively. "C'mon, Tommy, who is the bitch here?" Again the slap.

Tommy just glared at his wife. "She knows. She knows."

Vinnie shrugged. "Gotta be thorough, lady." He drew back his arm, then paused. "Hey Pauly, you think Mr. Bandini would want a look-see at her first? I mean, she's not bad looking."

Pauly shook his head. "Nah. Club is wall-to-wall with blondes hotter than her. Besides, Boss is on a brunette streak lately. Remember the last one? Tits out to Long Island?"

Vinnie nodded with a salacious grin. "Oh yeah. Damn, she was fine. Boss has all the luck."

He turned his eyes back to the wife. "So where were we? Right. Where's Mr. Bandini's money, bitch?" Vinnie's fist pulled back to his chin and hovered expectantly.
