MN mayor calls for city to remove ‘chief’ from city job titles

Does the mayor know Duluth's 'namesake' was a slave owner?

Duluth's 'namesake' is Daniel Greysolon, Sieur du Lhut. Will the mayor demand Duluth change its name?

Dulhut decided therefore to leave Montreal secretly on 1 Sept. 1678 with seven French followers and his three Indian slaves.

So is the source of the English word "chief" taken from a native American language? Or is it the English term that was applied to native American leaders?

Either way, why would it bother native Americans? My wife is part native American and she says that she officially doesn't give a hoot what officials are called. How does it harm native Americans?

These people must lay awake at night dreaming up new shit to complain about.

It actually derives from Old French. Chef derives from the same root. No more chefs, either?

How about just a spelling change? Simple, elegant and compliant:

Cheef
