If this group is mainly read by those editing stories and with questions for editors, I'm in the right place.
I'm working on a low-fantasy erotic series that has generated a question. The world is a place of gritty realism where life is cheap, death comes easy, and justice can be brutal (inspired by authors like GRRM). I have a character development scene where our hero witnesses a criminal being executed and it traumatizes him. Since the criminal is a rapist, the execution begins with some of the posse taking their turns on the rapist, followed by some facial and genital mutilation, and ultimately anal weapon insertion that delivers the killing blow.
Now that would all be fine in a standard fantasy novel (or even a modern crime novel) where the hero isn't having graphic sex with tavern wenches, but if you have erotic scenes in the story at all, can you also mix in some grizzly "human inhumanity to a fellow human" brutality?
