hey folks... This is really weird. I don't post many poems, but I am an analyst by trade, and I am seeing votes disappear from my poems and from other people's poems. I had one ( Guilty By Association) that had 15 votes, then 14, then 11 and now 9 votes, and it has 11 comments. Who is doing this, and WHY?

It happens. If someone votes twice on a poem, then the extra vote is removed. If it's down to 9 votes and 11 comments, are two or more comments by the same person?

No

None are by the same person, to the best of my knowledge, unless someone is using an alias.

It's a tad bit weird then. But there are explanations.

Trolls, perhaps? Has the average score gone up with the declining number of votes? Then it was probably a sweep by the site after one-bomb raids that removed at least some of the votes.

will report...if it takes.. what ever it takes to see ...the outcome...beware ye...we see you...

I did notice a flux in numbers after the week end and I suspect they will happen periodical till the Halloween story contest is over? Oct 29 ...I don't know if they sweep poems only or the whole system, but my stories had a flux as well, showing a lower amount of voters ...than last week. I have had that exact thing happen before and unless one person left a lot of votes, then the less voters usually elevates the rating <one removals>

Welcome to the club! Most of us have had the same thing happen.

Votes are scrubbed by a software program. It is not perfect. Sometimes it will remove valid votes and miss coordinated attacks or "boosts". - One common problem occurs (I think) if more than one person is using the same computer or even web server. The "scrub-bot" can't always tell the difference and removes ALL the votes with the same URL. - Don't blame Laurel or Manu, but if you have a specific on-going problem they may be willing to take a personal look at it if you ask them, but remember that is a "for profit" "ADULT" website. - Non-erotic poetry don't make no money!
We are fortunate that they allow us this forum. - Scraps from the table - MEOW!

2 play from the same isp connection

here, but aren't there many couples/triads/etc. playing on the same connections? If I lost 6 votes out of 15, that doesn't make sense! On the rest of my poems there are always more votes than comments.

You are right ET, that my average score did go up. I know that I got bombed by someone with political motivations, but that ANONYMOUS Bushie, who wouldn't admit they were motivated by a differing opinion, left a derogatory comment.

Both votes by the same IP address are removed, not just one. So if someone voted twice, or if another Lit member used their computer, without changing IP addresses, neither of their votes would remain. Also, a single one or zero vote may have been removed as the system weeds out the troll votes.

I hope this helps explain Lit anomalies. They're weird and wonderful...

min·ion ( P ) Pronunciation Key (mnyn)
n.
An obsequious follower or dependent; a sycophant.
A subordinate official.
One who is highly esteemed or favored; a darling.

I don't kowtow to anyone.

minion

And here I thought a minion was a small but thick slab of beef ... so I can be forgiven if I thought it should be Cowtow.
