I don't really understand this voting thing. I had 90 votes on my last story, with a rating of like 4.74. Then my votes went down to 89 and my rating went up to 4.79. What does this mean? Where did that last (obviously bad!) vote go?

There are people who hang on Lit known as 'trolls'.

One of their favourite games is to go through stories and give them a vote of one. They don't even read the stories, they just like fucking with people's minds.

This game is known as 'one bombing'.

So, every so often Lit sweeps through the stories and takes out the one bombs.

Yer welcome.

More precisely, there is a periodic removal of fraudulent votes -- usually just before the monthly contest totals are determined.

Fraudulent votes are NOT always "one bombs" and one votes are not always fraudulent.

Kind of like - the tooth fairy!

No, wait. Santa Claus! That's right, Santa Claus! Bringing joy and good cheer to the struggling writers and would-be authors of Lit!

:D

(I need sleep.)

You lost ONE?

I'm gonna bitch about this till I'm blue in the face!!

I lost SIXTEEN votes on one story!!!!

They said, when I complained, that my 'friends' voted more than once... what a crock.

Just grin and bear it. Those were legit votes... I have comments left to prove it.

Just be grateful this is a free site hon, and ignore the vote count.

yes Virginia... there really is a Santa Clause!

But how do they know the votes are fraudulent? I may have unknown enemies... (I'm not paranoid, don't even think I am!)

Neither Laurel nor Manu will say exactly how votes are tracked or determined to be fraudulent -- a security precaution I agree with, BTW -- they just say that anyone can vote once however they wish and any duplicate votes are removed.

This peeves me so much... explain, please, how sixteen votes... most with comments BY DIFFERENT PEOPLE... were removed?

I had one vote and comment, by damppanties, sorry hon for mentioning your name, but...

This one was removed after the others.. why?

It's like every vote I get, is removed.

How do you know the votes that were removed were the ones that were associated with specific comments?

Duplicate votes aren't necessarily deliberately fraudulent -- no more than duplicate posts are intentional.

As for the one vote that was removed later, I know there is more than one test made on the votes -- I would presume the later vote failed a different test than the others.

How do I know?

There was once a thread started by Tatelou on who and how often people check their votes and stories tallies.

I check mine religiously.

Mine had sat steady for almost two weeks.. had the reads, no votes... no biggie, then I finally got a vote.. days later it was removed.

I know it was this vote removed... it happened AFTER they had removed the other sixteen, so I was constantly watching.

You received a vote.

Days later a vote was removed.

This does not mean that any particular vote you are thinking of is the one that was removed. Simply that a vote was removed.

I think you're missing Harold's point.

Yes, a vote was removed. That doesn't mean it was the latest vote you received.

If more tests were done, and another fradulent vote was discovered, then that was the one removed.

That's part of the point, but the main question was how she knew that the votes and coments were linked. It's possible to leave a comment without voting or vote without leaving a comment.

Good point. There does seem to be some confusion on that.
