Are there any films that you remember drew a lot of attention when they came out and were soon forgotten?

I think about Straw Dogs which came out in 1971 and never made it to TV until the mid 80s and then shown late at night on local stations. I do not think it ever made it to network TV.

Another one was Thief from 1981 with James Caan.

Phantom of the Paradise

Came out in, oh, '77-'78 or so, a modernization of Phantom of the Opera well before A.L. Webber wrote the musical

I even had the soundtrack--pretty cool, or at least I thought so at the time.
