I just wanted to leave a quick note here so no one worries about me while I'm gone. I'm leaving tomorrow morning to move and will be without internet access for a few weeks. You may get some updates and things occasionally from my man how things are going for me, but that's entirely up to his lazy (although very sexy) ass.

So, see you all again sometime in the future.

Good luck with your move. We just moved a couple of months ago so I know what you're going through! :)

Lucky woman......

Good luck, W&U! Check out the county or city library in the area...they should be willing to give you a card and internet access if you need it. Enjoy the adventure! :rose:

Good luck with the move, W&U!! Hope all goes smoothly for you, and that you enjoy your new home and job. I'll be moving in a couple of weeks myself... I know it's scary, painful, and exciting all at the same time. Keep in touch and get back asap! :rose:

Update.

Well... She says that her flight was pretty good (she was in first class) despite her getting a bit sick.

Her rental car sucks though... She turned on the a/c for a bit and now she can't get it to turn off... Plus, she says that every time she tries to get into it, she either bangs her knees on the side of the dashboard or on the steering wheel.

She's staying in a hotel right now while she looks for an apartment... She looked at one yesterday and, although the apartment itself was really nice, the parking lot is accessable from the strip mall behind it... Which she really didn't like.

I guess that's it for right now... More updates to come.

Another update.

Well... She's found an apartment that she's going to rent and it sounds fairly nice - two bedrooms, two baths, nice neighborhood... She sounds happy about it.

One thing though... Her furniture, car, and other belongings won't arrive for another 2-3 weeks... Which seems waaay too long to me... I could see MAYBE a week from the time that they picked everything up... But 2-3 weeks?! ... So, she had to go out and buy an air matress to sleep on in the new apartment until her actual bed arrives.

Oh... And she starts the new job on Friday.

I guess that's it for now... I'll keep you all updated.

And to a certain you-know-who... I just got your PM... I'll relay the message... And thanks for the words of advice and reassurance.

Two to three weeks does seem like a really long time! Two moves ago, my husband and I had movers handle the work. We weren't moving halfway across the nation, but we were moving to an island... during the busy season. Our belongings still arrived within two days. If I were W&U, I'd be harassing the moving company and telling them that the better part of a month was seriously unacceptable. If her new job is footing the bill, maybe she could call them up and ask them to call the movers to expediate the process. She has free time now, when she could be settling in... but instead she'll be trying to adjust to her new job and set up her home all at once. :(

Yeah... This moving company seriously seems to NOT have their shit together.

Not only does she have to wait another 2-3 weeks for her stuff (including her car), but they called her a few days before they were to arrive to pick everything up to tell her that they couldn't come the day that they originally told her that they would... They showed up the day after... A day after she had already left... So, her parents had to take a day off of work in order to meet the movers.

Ack! I hope this whole nightmare turns into something she can laugh about when she's finally settled in. Send her our best... the Litsters are thinkin' about her. :rose:

Did she sign a contract with this moving company? Because if she did, and there are standards of performance outlined in the contract (As I'd think there SHOULD be), then I sure wouldn't be too inclined to pay those people! What's more, I would probably take them to court for the expenses that I incurred during the several weeks that I waited for my stuff (e.g. rental car).

At the very least, I'd contact the Better Business Bureau. That long of a wait is absolutely unacceptable.

Actually, her new employer is paying for all of her moving expenses... But, I definitely agree with calling the BBB.

Another thing she just discovered yesterday while I was on the phone with her is that the movers marked down on their inventory sheet that almost ALL of her belongings were damaged in some way, shape, or form... Even on thing that is brand new and still in the box!!! She agrees that SOME of the things on the list were a bit scratched or worn, but nowhere near ALL... Hell, her mom told her that a piece came off of her computer and the mover said that all he did was just pick it up and "it happened"... And her dad actually signed for it!!! (Which I think might hurt her case in Small Claims Court.)

Personally, I think that this company is REALLY shady and they were just trying to cover their asses just in case they DID break something.

Hey all. Thanks for the well wishes and everything. I just signed my lease today but I'm waiting to actually move in there until this weekend. None of my things will be there until sometime next week (between the 12th and the 22nd). The place I'm working for is paying for the movers, the rental car from hell, and the hotel I'm living in, so I'm not out to complain much. And of course, they're also paying for me an entire day off for when the movers do come to put everything in my apartment. I would move in today, but I missed the checkout time at the hotel by a bit (might as well stay there for the night since I've gotta pay for it anyways) and I won't have anything to do but sit there in the apartment and stare at the walls for awhile (the cable won't be ready until the 16th and I still dont have a phone besides my cell).

Yeah, the moving company has been horrible, at least the people that picked up my stuff from my parents house. The main contact I have is for someone out here that's been really great. I called her about the paperwork and how everything was supposedly damaged and whatnot at pickup, and she said that if anything is damaged they will definitely work with me on it instead of saying 'oh well, it's your problem now.' She couldn't believe the way some of the things were marked (like the brand new things still in the box marked as scratched, or my new sofa marked as soiled). So, she is definitely not thrilled with the local company at my parents' end either, even though she has been great to help me out with everything. I did hear from the truck driver that is actually bringing my things out this way, and he said he's either leaving today or Sunday, I couldn't tell for sure with the background noise on his end, but at least it's promising to know I won't be sleeping on an air mattress for long and will actually have the ability to watch movies and listen to music and all that while unpacking.

Just a word of advice to anyone that might ever move on a company bill to someplace you've never been before, living in a hotel majorly sucks ass. So does eating at a restaurant by yourself, along with crappy rental cars (see my rant in the WPMO thread).

All in all though, I've found a great apartment at a really good price. I've got a view of the parking lot, but I'm not complaining. Where I'm at is about 2 miles from where I'm working and 3.5 miles from Puget Sound. It's really cool. I've got a few people to get in touch with soon about showing me around some, but other than that, anyone that wants to come visit and go sightseeing with me is more than welcome to :catroar:

Oh, and thanks to my man for leaving updates. I'm sure he will still for another couple of weeks while I get everything put together and all that. I'm still trying to decide what internet provider to go with (I'm getting a dial up, the faster internet connections are just too expensive for my budget).

To answer Ed's question about my toys, I put them into a decorative looking cloth bag and then placed them all into a rubbermaid bin with some other things that came home from college. So, there hopefully won't be any problems with it.

welcome back, W&U! good to see you again. :> and i was kinda curious how you went about it, so thanks! :>

Well, hopefully this will be my last update for how the move went and maybe be back to posting again sometime soon.

As I've mentioned elsewhere around here already today, my car finally arrived last week Thursday (the 14th). I had to miss 2 hours of work to get it, but they were really cool and let me make it up as comp. time. The cable guy showed up on Saturday pretty early in the day, which was really nice. I got all hooked up in two rooms and am so glad that I can actually see a picture on the television set instead of a large amount of fuzz and just being able to hear it (not to mention getting more than 3 channels now). About an hour after the cable guy left, I got a phone call from the truck driver that was moving my things cross-country. He wanted to deliver asap so that he could empty his truck and get paid sooner. I said sure, why not, and everything got delivered on Saturday. I'm about halfway unpacked so far. The kitchen is the most done out of all of the rooms right now. I've got all of the boxes emptied for in there and am just on to finishing up with washing all of the dishes so I can put them away. I've managed to get almost all of my books up on the bookshelves, all 8 boxes of them. Most of my clothing is put away and everything else is still in the boxes. However, I finally found my mattress pad after looking for it for 2 days.

I'm glad you're getting settled W&U. Puget Sound... I'm jealous, the pacific northwest is beautiful.

How are you enjoying your work? Has it hit you that you're done with college yet? As I recall it took me until almost October to realize I was out - it takes getting used to. I hope things go smoothly for you here on in.

Congrats to you on making such an ambitious move right from the start. :rose:

Thank you so much Cathleen. I will agree with you, it is absolutely gorgeous out here. I stopped by the post office today on my way home from work and the view from the top of this one hill on my way there was just amazing with the water out in the distance, and the mountains along the skyline, and of course, practically no clouds and deep blue sky.

I'm really enjoying work so far, at least when I have something to do. The person that is training me gives me things to do and then is surprised that I get them all done really quickly leaving me to sit and do nothing for awhile (I've sat and done nothing for about half the week this week so far). I try to amuse myself, so I'm at least looking through my benefits and such just to try and understand that stuff better before I have the opportunity to enroll in some of it. It's slowly hitting me that I'm done with college. I did my best to be good with time management while in school and I never really had to do much homework or studying at night, which makes it similar to a regular full time job in that respect. It probably won't fully sink in for quite some time since I've got a whole bunch of training classes to take over the next few months (so far, half of August is already scheduled with classes).

Welcome back W&U... I'm glad to hear that you're finally getting settled in! I like my creature comforts, and I can't imagine going as long as you did without my stuff. But hopefully everything will be better, now that the fiasco of moving is behind you! :rose:
