I just had a guy PM me to say that he didn't know if I'd gotten the feedback on one of my stories. I had not. He did say that he put his email in the comment. Could this be why I didn't get? Maybe it was removed for violation.

Did he say when he sent it?

It can take upwards of 12 hours or more for feedback to be approved because of trolling that happened a year ago.

Ohhh... He said "just". Thanks!

There was a glitch on the story side earlier in the week... I think it's fixed now... I received a bunch of notices in my activity that I had comments waiting, yet none were there. They all showed up about a day or two later after they increased the capacity of the site.

Manu said they were getting over a million hits a second now that the shelter in place is in effect which threw a monkey wrench or spanner to you Brits, into the things.

Single people have to have something to do. Not to mention all those horny collge students with nowhere to go or come for that matter. :D

It’s taken a few days lately; I left a comment on one of your stories and it wasn’t posted until two days later.

Question

Ms. Jade,

Do you prefer complementary comments? Or, prefer a more critical eye?

I'm sure Jade enjoys additional comments as much as the rest of us, and she probably likes compliments too.

"Complementary" means 'forming a complement or addition,' as in a suit with a complementary tie.

"Complimentary" means 'expressing praise or admiration' (a complimentary remark) and 'given freely, as a courtesy' eg: honeymooners receive complimentary fruits and flowers.

Dammit

You got me there didn't you?

As gently as possible. It's a form of Forum bingo, especially amongst writers, to spot bloopers like these. Usually it's the grammar police who reveal their true selves, in which case there's no mercy; but you're not one of those, so consider it educational :).

Very kind

You are very kind. I appreciate your constructive criticism and especially your delivery.

I sometimes explain my language skills as English isn't my first language. Specifically, I am a math and science major so I'm more comfortable with equations and symbols. Can't tell you how many time I've made the above mistake.

Back to the original message. I enjoy complimentary comments. But I think the more critical comments help me grow as a writer.

:)

You need both types of comment - the first to feed the ego, the second to feed the intellect.

@eb and jib...

All in good fun, if all the comments were complimentary, as jib was asking, they’d all be similar in nature, right?

So, being similar and matching, you can also make the case that jib wasn’t really wrong either. Welcome to English, jib! ;-)

You're quite right, once you've got them in the right order.

The complementary compliment has to succeed the preceding compliment. Once you've got that, the compliments complement the compliment.

It's easy once you know, but don't say it all in a hurry :).

Feedback? You then said comments, which ARE moderated.

Even when everyone dies at the end.

Hollywood doesn’t have a problem with resurrection if a movie has made a lot of money. The problem is most of the time the characters should have stayed dead. If it’s a story in Lit just put an explanation at the beginning of the sequel referring them to Bobby Ewing. Provided they have a shower.
