I bet you never heard ol' Marshall Dillon say
"Miss Kitty, have you ever thought of runnin' away?
And settling' down, would you marry me?
If I asked you twice and begged you pretty please?"

Great song.

I remember watching Gunsmoke as a little kid, waaay to young fo make the obvious connection. Mind you, these days, it might have been Matt and Chester. :D

That would tend to explain why Marshall Dillon never hung his hat at Miss Kitty's place.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. . .

I think Miss Kitty purred for Burt Reynolds.

No, they never got together on the show. It's supposedly one of the great, unconsummated loves of TV.

There was a reference in the first reunion movie (Gunsmoke: Return to Dodge) that Kitty had left to return to New Orleans at the end of season 19 (she didn't appear in season 20, supposedly due to the commute from her new home) due to not being able to take the ongoing dangers for Matt (and, implied, his lack of commitment for her).

Matt's only kiss on the show was with Michael Learned (Ma Walton) in "Matt's Love Story" in Season 19, Ep. 3. You see them go back in the bedroom but never see them in bed together (edit to note that he had amnesia at the time, and returned to Dodge after his memory was restored). In 1990's "Gunsmoke: The Last Apache," Michael Learned returned and we learn that they did spend the night together and Matt was the father of a pretty young lady played by Amy Stock-Poynton (now Amy Stoch). Amanda Blake died before this second reunion movie was made, so Kitty didn't appear and we never learned what her thoughts would have been about that development.
