Misogyny in porn

You know maybe I'm just old fashioned or perhaps it has always been this way but it just seems to me that pornography, at least the seemingly most popular variety's these days has an edge to it that wasn't there before. If I go out to say Porn Hub and look at the most popular videos I guarantee the ones with the most views will have some of the following elements -

1) Some guy shoving his cock so far down a woman's throat her eye's are tearing and she is gagging like she is going to throw up all over his sack.

2) A girl getting it from behind while a guy yanks her hair back like his is trying to stop a runaway horse and smacks her ass hard enough to make her cheeks red as a fire engine while calling her all kinds of sweet names like "cunt" and "cum swallowing whore"

3) A girl getting it so hard in the asshole it leaves her almost bleeding on the bed afterwards and the guy is still calling her the names cited above.

Excluding the obvious BDSM stuff and that is not my thing but to each his own and I don't have a problem with people getting their kink on in an arena I don't care to play in myself as long as it is consensual. What really bothers me is the misogynistic edge that seems to go hat in hand with the most popular pornography these days, whatever happened to just enjoying two people making sweet love to each other in a respectful manner?

Anyone else bothered by it sometimes?

Sex is more about control and power it seems. Generically speaking men want women to be sexual but only on their terms.

I see this all the time is responses to written stories on Lit. It is perfectly ok for a woman to be as wantonly slutty as you can imagine as long as she is doing under duress, under the control of a man or feels shame for her actions.

The vitriol comes out when she is something approaching equal or has the temerity to be in control of her own circumstances.

Definitely. I also agree with everything you said in your post. Decent "porn" is pretty hard to find. I would add nose-plugging and face slapping to your list as well as things I personally don't like to see and seem to be prolific. I like to be able to share and watch porn with my lovers, none of this is applicable to their tastes either.

This is basically why I don't watch porn ... coupled with the fact that I can't be arsed paying for anything that isn't misogynistic, which seems to be the only option. I have no problem with porn per se, I don't even have a problem with porn in which the women don't seem to be having fun, if 'not having fun' is the point of the exercise, e.g. bdsm (so actually it is 'fun', it just looks different) (or, alternatively, if the actors got paid decently for appearing to not have fun). But, yes, I find that this is the overwhelming majority of what's available is a bit disturbing ... especially has the ready availability of online (free) porn and a lack of decent sex ed means that's where a lot of young people are 'learning' about 'sex'.

You do know that they make softer more romatic type porn for us ladies? Just throwing that out there.

But it's so boring (often) - isn't there some happy medium where there aren't candles and acoustic guitar music, but people still look happy?

Ditto that.

I used to love me some good porn, but these days I stay away because I'm afraid of what I might see.

I know right? I used to have an online 'friend' who'd find good stuff for us to watch 'together' - we all need one of those.

I liked quite a bit of stuff that James Deen did ... and then he unfortunately turned out to be a dick. We need to start a 'porn in which women are having fun but it doesn't look like something written by a romance novelist' thread.

I'm happy someone else has noticed it getting more violent. I'm a very kinky person myself but most of the popular videos online turn me off and make me want to cry. When I was younger, the popular videos were sexy...women genuinely enjoyed it, seemed to have real orgasms like mine and it wasn't entirely focused on the male's pleasure.

I honestly don't understand why people get off on watching women do uncomfortable/forced acts for money when there are women out there who are dying to have that sort of sex. Unless you blame misogyny, which is the only rational explanation, in my opinion.

It's no wonder young men call women sluts and whores now and treat them like trash.

Beverly Hills Wives with Amber Lynn.
American Pie with Arcadia Lake.
I Do with Hypatia Lee.

Yeah, it's older stuff. Might not even be able to find it any more.

OK.
First, I wouldn't call it misogyny. This term has a very specific definition, and porn is not that, really. You may try and stretch it to porn being abusive to women, but it's a small slice that you are talking about.

Second, using pornhub's top lists is a very poor way to judge. Let me tell you something about how humans work on video tubes.
There are MILLIONS of vanilla porn clips. Some are good, some are crappy, but even the best ones - are "just another sex clip". People don't tend to pay much attention to them and upvote them as much, simply because there's so much of it. I would say that 70 to 80% of porn is simple vanilla sex, with no slapping, no hair pulling, no nothing.
However the more fetish-y you get, the more specialized your clip is - the more it grabs people's attention when it's really good. People upvote them more. As a result, they get to the top of charts and lists.
It's not because all porn is becoming that. It's because people pay more attention to those clips, and pornhum promotes them to get your attention. If it offered you 10 generic porn clips - there wouldn't be anything special about them to get you to return and watch more.

Third, porn glorifies sex. It glorifies the needs and wants that people have. "Big strong man on top" happens to be how the majority of people of both genders seem to view good sex. Even in a most tender encounter, most women want to play it a bit more passively, and most men want to take, to own her, to fuck, to play an active role. I'm not talking about power exchange now at all.
It's just, think of a generic tender sex scene. The woman would be held by her man tightly, would be fucked by him. The man is expected by women to lead the dance.
Porn takes that and glorifies it to a certain point. They need to do it to compensate for the absence of many things and feelings that you get in a sexual encounter but lack when viewing it on your screen. That's why in porn men are more dominant (again, not talking BDSM), more rough even. That's why they hold the girl firmly, fuck her harder, toss her around to change positions and so on.
There are "vanilla femdom" clips where the woman is the active participant and the man is less so, with no fetishes or DS involved. Most vanilla people would think that something's off about those clips. Because what is expected is for a man to be initiating.

Also, I find "I can't watch porn because it's this and that" comments extremely strange. It's basically like saying "I don't go to picture galleries because I don't like Picasso.".
As people have mentioned, there's porn for everyone. 9/10 of porn clips I watch - I click through in 30 seconds and discard, because it doesn't suit me. 1/10 would be a good one.
Isn't it like this with literally EVERYTHING? When you go to choose a new shoes - how many do you have to go through before you get a good pair you want to buy?
Just treat porn as any other mass market - there's something for everyone, but this only means that only a small slice of it is for you.

There's a reason I'm picky about porn, and only watch from a couple of 'studios'. Even most lesbian porn has taken on a feel of degradation (though seldom explicitly violent). And, mind you, I like me some degradation in kink, maybe, but jesus, there's context!

Didn’t there used to be a woman owned porn studio

That made films more suited to the female audience?

I remember watching some and finding it quite hot for the reasons mentioned her along with a few others.

Unfortunately, the insidious effects of porn on men and the way they treat women in general, even outside sex, have already been well documented. There are countless of studies. They need to start making better porn for everyone, not just for straight cisgender men.

Exactly. Same here.

I agree there are some studios that have very fine vids and are so very erotic, but many are just bad acting and even worse sex, not worth the time. The good ones keep me looking...

Yes...the good ones are rare, but they exist. :)

Exactly. In spite of Nezhul's research in which n=1, there's some really very depressing studies on what happens when young guys use the readily available free online porn as a 'model' for sex.
And I'm sorry, but a great deal of what I see if I happen to check into PornHub totally fits the definition of misogynistic.
