Just imagine, it's like we're collectively giving this great big country a hug, from our respective coasts.


Dude, I looove Birkenstocks. When I was in high school, I could not afford real Birkenstocks, but I found two pairs of knock-offs at Payless for $5 each, one brown and one black. I then found seven floral print knee-length dresses on clearance at a boutique that was closing, also for only $5 a dress. That was my wardrobe for high school. Like, every single day, for four years. I added knit stockings in the winter. I was saving up for college, and that was all I could afford, and it suited me just fine.

I was still wearing my standard hippy uniform when I met Mr Mischka in college. He haaated my Birks. As if he was one to sniff at sartorial choices - he sported a chain wallet and a rotation of heavy metal tees. Fortunately for him, after seven years of daily wear, my beloved faux Birks died, and I had to find other shoes. Now that I'm in a walkable city, Mr Mischka just gifted me this pair of real Birks for my birthday this year. And since I am recovering from a broken foot, they are my daily staples. Today I just happen to also be wearing a knee length floral dress with them.

I like this robe. It ties at the waist, on the inside, and then belts on top, so my contents don’t spill, unless I want them to. Like here.

The robe is vivid iris purple. I’m a morning person, so it matches my usual chipper, don’t-need-coffee-to-start-the-day mood. Except today I want to crawl back inside, away from the color. I want to cocoon.

But I can’t. Things to do, places to go, plans to make, check lists to check off. So I’ll leave this quiet little photo here, to rest and hide, while I go out into the glaringly bright world.
