OK, I posted some new stories (BDSM content) and I had a number of people who felt compelled to write and tell me the obvious ("You have a weird sense of the erotic" being my favorite. In fact I may add that to my .sig!) others who were just not nice :(

Does this happen to a lot of BDSM authors? Do we get more negative response than other genres?

Hope this is the right place to ask.

Feeling dejected,
Keiko

It's all relative. Subjective.

Do you want me to read one of your stories and then tell you if you have a "weird sense of erotic"?

I'd be willing to read one or two myself.

And yes, some people when reading BDSM stories will find them to be "odd" or "weird" or other such things.

Hmmmmm, but it begs the question, "Why are they reading BDSM stories?"

There must be something a bit "odd" or "weird" about their desires to even draw them into a story.

And did they finish it?

Hmmmmmm

Anonymous lousy feedback is not unusual in any category, methinks.

Well, I don't have people write me with that, but I do get people who want to give me too much information. One guy wrote me "Good Story. I came all over my computer." It's like, ok, and why do I want to know that? My other problem is people who think that cause I write erotica that I"m gonna cyber with them. *rolls eyes* Yeah, whatever.

Also, if you're interested in having your stories read and critiqued, I"m trying to get a thread going for that.

Normally, I'd say yes, but at the moment I am just wondering if the problem is that maybe I am just not a very good writer?

If that is the case, maybe I don't want to know :)

I thought about it some more and I have gotten quite a few nice responses since, so I am feeling better about it.

I am also trying to remind myself that the only person I write for is me, so love them, hate them, or ignore them, they are my stories and it feels good to write them. So, comments, feedback, etc is secondary.

OK, on a related question, do any other writes (especially subs) write as a release? Or for a sense of approval?

I wonder if this is tied some way to my sub nature (pun intended).

Curious,
Keiko

I write for several reasons. Mainly cause it's a great way to relieve stress. I also write cause I like it when people write me and tell me they like my stories. It's an ego boost. LOL
Also, for me writing erotica. . . well, it helped me be able to verbalize what I want from my relationship with my hubby. It also helps him, cause he can read my fantasys and then, if possible, follow through. ;)

Ok... I admit I read a couple of your stories.

No, it's not your writing style. You write very well in fact.

I don't think you're weird either. I think it's them. :rose:

I read your stories, too. Other than some minor "mechanical" errors, which tend to fall into most writers' works, they were well-written, coherent and cohesive, and followed a logical sequence. They were also uninhibitedly erotic (though perhaps just a wee bit tame for one of my leanings).

I'll have to agree with MissT and Sky - first, if they think BDSM is "weird," why are they reading it; and second, your stories are not weird - so perhaps they are...

Keep on writing. As you said, "the only person I write for is me," so write on, and be true to yourself. Everyone else can go piss up a rope. :p

There is an old saying," those that can't do, become critics". I would only value it from those that write and you admire. The others just take it with a grain of salt. I am funnelling any of my stories thru a number of editors prior to submitting them. My writing skills are poor and I need all the help I can get.:D
