Wall Street Journal columnist William McGurn brings good news in his column today. It’s turning out to be a banner year for school choice advocates. The idea that the late Milton Friedman introduced back in 1955 is catching fire across the nation.

So far this year, 4 states have adopted school choice for everyone. Iowa, Utah, Arkansas, and Florida are the latest, and Oklahoma, Iowa, Wyoming, and Texas have legislation pending. Nebraska, South Carolina, Kansas, and Pennsylvania are drafting bills and Georgia might be bringing a bill up next year.

The wave has stoked fear in Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers. She warned in a speech Tuesday at the National Press Club that this year 29 states are considering school-choice measures. McGurn notes that Covid was a game changer. When teachers unions put students last with school shut downs, parents pushed back, igniting the school revolution that’s spreading nationwide.

School choice is just a backdoor for non profit churches to get government money. If they want government money, then they should be taxed.
Yeah, fuck the children. Can't have them properly educated now, can we?

Taxing churches who receive payments from the government does not impact education of children. The other option is to ensure that any money for education is used only for education through increased regulation. Religion classes would be funded by the church and be optional.

If you want children to be educated, give teachers the resources they need to teach. Stop taking away money from schools that perform poorly.
Fuck the teachers. You don't reward failing employees, you fire them.

Yes, you have demonstrated that you hate teachers and you certainly don't understand how education works.

I never could figure out why this is or isn't a thing. Why do parents have to send their kids to a school nearby instead of a school where the parents think the child will be well educated? It can't be because their tax dollars go to the local school because the money for all the schools in the district comes from the same pot o' gold.

So why limit kids to only their local school? Tribalism? These kids are [mascot name] and those kids are all [different mascot name] as assigned by a faceless bureaucrat looking at a map?

Parents can send their kids to whatever school they want.

American Marxists and their Democrat clones have gone too far with their totalitarian policies. The American people are tired of it. They are acting to remove their children from these oppressive propaganda mills and create real learning environments that are safe.

Yes, you demonstrate that you also hate teachers regularly.

It's all coming to an end. Parents have figured out they DO have the power and there's a hell of a lot more of them then there are teachers.

The Bill Ayers model of public education is on its way out.

It's long overdue, a whole generation of youth has been harmed by leftist indoctrination.

Each student should have school funding follow them. Parents that send their kids to charter schools also pay taxes to pay for public schools. Why should they have to pay double.

Kids aren’t limited, never have been. Prior to this the parents had 100% school choice, now they have less.

They don't have to pay double. They choose to pay double.

As long as money goes to schools that do well (and don't need the $$ as much) instead of going to schools that are deficient on resources, the problems will continue to exist.

Bussing kids to private schools for free is not going to fix any problems. As demonstrated, the parents who bitch now will continue to bitch whole the parents who are busy working three jobs will continue to work three jobs....and the kids won't get better educations.

School funding should not be a prize for those who don't need it.

If the goal is a child’s education and the preferred institution provides an education that meets the standard then our taxes should fund all educational resources. I believe funding should follow the student, and choice should be granted to parents to spend their funding wherever they choose as long as the institution meets the requirements. The goal is to enhance education not restrict it. Competition breeds quality.

There is a reason for private and public education. If you wish to make all education funded, then you must remove all private aspects of the private schools to make them public.
