A few years ago I was driving west on Gandy Boulevard in Tampa -- in what is usually the eastbound lane, because the westbound lane was blocked off by traffic cones -- and I saw in the westbound lane a curious police procession: First cops on motorcycles, then patrol cars -- and then what appeared to be military vehicles! Not tanks, they looked like armored personnel carriers.
Why?!
The DoD has been supplying local police forces with military hardware for at least a decade now. What are they ever going to use it for?! Even if taking down a nest of heavy-armed gangsters, the most you need is some shields and rifles and body armor, all standard SWAT equipment ever since SWAT was a thing.
