I was driving into town this morning and saw some children on bikes. It made me think back to my own childhood.
There was a hill near our house. It was about a quarter mile incline and was my challenge. In the days before ten speed bikes were the norm, it was an effort and challenge to bike up this hill without walking the bike over the crest. I remember the first time I did it. What a feeling of accomplishment!
So, as my thoughts wander to my own children, I began thinking bout their successes. Have I given them enough credit for them? Have I been an encouraging parent or one who says, "Fine. Now go watch television?"
My son learned to swim this summer.
My daugher is learning to ride her bike.
They both have learned how to cross the road and love when I trust them to go to their friend's house, under my watchful eye.
These milestones are part of what makes us the adults we become. Do we give up and throw our hands in the air? OR do we keep peddling?
*Sunday mornings are for contemplation, I guess.*
