Technically no, but all are welcome. I lived in south Texas for a number of years and the feeling I got from that area was more alligned to southern writers like Tennesse Williams. I'm not sure how to describe it. On one side there is a unique and wonderful energy defined by pride in heritage and diversity in culture. But then, there is also a deep affilliation to the pain of the past and the excesses of both the civil war and the Texas War for Independence. Texas is a special place with affiliation to many locales, but unique unto itself.
One thing I missed when I lived there, and maybe I'm not explaining this well, was a Native tradition. Hispanic culture was far more celebrated than any of the specific nations. This seemed sad to me because the Cherokee, Caddo, and Kiowa along with numerous other groups helped to make Texas what it is.
Also, there is a big difference between the climates. When you feel straight line winds hitting you for two days straight with the force of a category one or two hurricane, it gives you a different perspective. Also the fluctuation from sub zero temps in the winter to over 100 in the summer, again, a major difference from South Texas.
I'm just wondering if there would be value in having a brainstorming place to ask questions etc.
And once again, ALL ARE WELCOME.
