PROLOGUE

Vince Romano did not look so tough only wearing his underwear. He did not feel very dangerous as well. He was the youngest brother of Anthony Romano. The Romano's was one of the biggest crime syndicate's in New York and Vince was second in command to his older brother.

The reason hw stood dressed only in underwear and holding a 44 magnum revolver was the sound he heard through the door. It was an unnerving sound. It was the sound of Jake. A Jake that was in pain. Vince felt fear. He was not used to the feeling. A man in his position had no reason being scared. He was untouchable. The sound coming from his bodyguard really touched a nerve in Vince. Jake was a tough guy. A guy that kept his cool in all situations. Hearing his voice begging for his life just outside the door to Vince's bedroom made the crime boss sweat.

After several minutes of hearing Jake beg and scream it was silent. The silence was even worse. Vince moved closer to the door. His grip on the gun felt wet of his sweat.

"Jake?" The words came out as a whisper. Vince cleared his throat. there was no saliva in his mouth and he felt the need of wetting his lips.

He flinched back from the door, almost falling over when he heard the scratching on the other side of the door. He rushed to the bathroom door and went inside, closing and locking it behind him. He sat down on the toliet seat and pointed his big gun at the door. A curse came through his lips as he realised that his cell phone was on the bed table outside. A scratching coming from the wall behind him made all thoughts go away. Everything except fear. Something dropped down on his shoulder and he felt a sharp pain in his chin and cheek. Vince screamed and rushed forward to the door. In his panic he failed to open the door he had locked. The pain was getting worse and now was accompanied with simular pain in his feet and inner thigh.

Vince looks down and faces something only seen in nightmares. He fires his gun six times in panic before he feels the pain in his arms as well. The agony is unbearable and forces him down to his knees. His screams continue for awhile but they are soon replaced by begging and crying. In a couple of minutes all that remains in the bathroom is silence.

(OOC. Still need a female to join me in this to take the role as Detectice Jessica Stone. PM me if interrested.)

Homicide detectives Jessica Stone and Mike Andrews was met at the door by a young uniformed cop. The cop looked nausious and Mike gave him a sympathetic look. Jessica just had that boring look Mike was used to.

"This is really bad sir." The cop said with a slight shiver in his voice.

"How many victims?" Mike asked as Jessica walked straight inside the apartment.

"Two victims. Jake Guerro and Vincent Romano.

"Romano, as in Anthony Romano?" Mike cursed softly. If the victim was Anthony Romano's younger brother all hell would break loose.

"Indeed, his younger brother lay dead in there." The cop waves towards the apartment.

"Shit. We may have a war on our hands." Mike nods to the the young cop and enters the apartment.

The hallway look clean from what must have been happening in the place. Mike and Jessica is the first police on the scene after the street cops took the anonomous call that there had been a shooting. Neither he or Jessica knew then that the Romano family was involved. Mike walks up the stairs and find Jessica leaning over a mauled body. The blood covers the victim as well as a large part of the wall where he is sittng up against.

"Messy." Mike nods at Jessica. "Where is Vincent?"

Jessica looks up and nods at the bedroom door. "Must be in there, i have looked in the other rooms. No sight of a struggle in them.

"Ok." Mike open the bedroom door. No mess in there. He eyes the room and stopsat the closed door to what must be the bathroom. Two large holes in the door shows that the fight must have happened in the bathroom. He turns his head at the open door to the hallway.

"Jess. I think i found where he is."

Jessica and Mike Approaches the closed bathroom door carefully. Mike tries to open it but it won't budge. He shares a look with Jessica as both draw their sidearms. mike throws all his weight into the confrontation with the door and it flies open. Jessica covers the room with her gun and Mike looks inside.

Vincent lie on the side. He is only wearing his underwear and his body is covered in blood and terrifying wounds.

"Shit." Mike mutters as he stares at the carnage. "I think someone will pay for this."

Mike is 35 years old with dark brown hair. He are 6 feet tall and weighs 155 lbs. His eyes are blue. He is a widower as his wife died three years earlier in cancer. Leaving Mike as a single parent of two children, a boy and a girl.

Jessica

"God, what the hell got to him Mike," Jess asked. She had no idea what could do this sort of thing to a person. Having been on the force for as long as she had she knew about most everything. This went beyong that.

Jess continued to look around the room for anything may explain what happend. Theres nothing, a gun laying near the body. She knew that wasn't the cause for what happened. Her body shook as she walked the room. Her heart beating faster as she neared the toilet where the victim had to sit last.

"This will not go well with the Ramano's. They will want answers Mike and we don't have shit to go on. There is nothing here. It's as if whatever did this wasn't human you know."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A little quick background on Jessica Stone. She early thirty's. Had an abusive family system. Her dad beat her mom. When Jess was old enough she left. Ended up in the streets trying to survive. She found herself soon headed down the wrong path. Something happened to her, changed her. Jess decided to be a detective. Going through the normal training she earned a rep with her fellow cops of beaing a bull busting bitch. SHe had her reasons for being the way she was. No one could see past that then screw them was her attitude. Her partner was the only one that took the time to know her. He knew the girl behind her front. Seemed to be her only friend on the force.
Mike stares down at the corpse. He can feel the unease coming from Jess. In fact he feel it himself. This would be a mess and he and Jessica was in the middle of it.
"Looks like he was chewed and spit out by an animal. No such animal that lives in New York though."
He turns toward the door. "The door was locked but someone got to him anyway." He walks out. "And then walked away." He shrugs. "Seems we have a closed room mystery on our hands." He walks back to Jess and searches for traces of the bullets that Vincent obviously got of before he died. He puts on gloves before he takes up the revolver from the ground.
"This should stop everything." He opens the chamber and find that it have been used six times. "Six shots fired and only trace of two bullets. He obviously hit what he aimed at but where is the blood?"
Jess
Where was the blood. If the kid had hit whatever it was there would be blood. Yet they didn't have a damn thing. They needed answers, the chief would want them. Hell the Romano's would most of all. If her and Mike didn't have them, shit they would be in trouble.
"Shit Mike, we are so fucked. No blood, missing bullets. Doesn't look good. There is nothing here to tell us what happened. Did you get a look at Jake, see what happened to him yet? Maybe there is something over by him that can help?"
She knew something had to be found and soon. Once the news got ahold of this all sorts of crap would rain down on her and her partner. She glanced his way and shrugged. Her body tense with stress and in need of a few drinks already.
Mike nods at his partners words. Nothing with Vincent's bloody corpse was anything but strange. Maybe they could find something over at the bodyguard. "I will take a look."
Jake's body was at same bad shape as Vincent's. The clothes covered up the wounds pretty good but he looked just as maimed. The big difference was that Jake's gun was still holstered with not a single shot fired. He must have been killed by surprise.
Mike checks the body carefully taking the victim's wallet and some spare coins he found in his pants.
He opens up his shirt, ignoring the blood. Just then the young cop calls up to them.
"I'm sending up the forensic investigators now."
Jess
She heard the cop mention something about forensics being on there way up. Good they needed something. They would have to put a rush on this. Who knows what happened here. That was their job though, her and Mike, to figuer this out. It was just made more difficult because of who the vivtim was and there was no sign that anyone else had been there.
Jess walked from the body over to Mike. She noticed Jake was just as bad. She closed her eyes shaking her head. The blood was everywhere yet no foot prints. Absolutly nothing to go on.
"Mike you think we should tell Anthony Ramano before he hears it from someone else?" Jess didn't want to tell him, she knew what the guy was like. She'd found several of his victims along the river or in garbage dump. The guy was evil but so far they hadn't been able to pin shit on him. This would not put them on happier terms.
Mike
Mike smiles slightly. "Anthony Romano is a scumbag, as was his brother. Whoever killed Vince made society a service really." He looks up to Jessica. "Nothing more we can do at the scene. Let's leave it for the forensic team to figure it out."
Mike can't shake the feeling of unease as he walk towards their car. This murders was unexplainable. Mike was not fond of mysteries and he felt a beginning stomach pain. He was in dire need of something to eat but he also wished to make the report as fast as possible.
He opens the car door and sits in the driver seat and waits for his partner. When she enters the car to sit beside him he turns his head towards her. "Are you hungry Jess? I am starving."
Jess
She walked silently to the car. So much running through her mind. What they were getting into with these murders. Jessica's stomach made a gurgle as she sat down next to Mike in the car.
"Yeah I think I am," she laughed as they both heard her tummy. "Anywhere you want will work for me."
She turned and looked back out the window. Her mind drawn back to the picture of both the men laying there. Almost torn apart. She couldn't get the look of Vince's face out of her mind. Something had scared him to death. They had to find out what it was, it was only right even though they guy had been scum. No body deserved to die that way.
Mike
"Very well then, Chinese it is." Mike grins as he steers the car out from the curve. He did not stomach italian food at this moment. It was quite some time since he had eaten chinese food. The scenario in Vince's apartment was still fresh in his mind as he skillfully steered the car through the traffic.
He felt the need of seing Tommy and Gina at times like this. His two children was what kept him sane in an insane world. They meant everything to him and he had more than once thought about leaving the force to be with them more. It was what Sharon, his now dead wife that wanted him to quit the job to do something else. What, he had no idea about.
Mike drove the twenty minutes it took to get to his favourite chinese restaurant. His thoughts was back to the present time just about when they arrived there. "Ok, here we are. You can go in. I will be right there." He says with a smile to Jessica."
Mike takes out his cell phone. "I will just call home and see if everything is alright."
Jess
"No problem Mike. I'll get us a table," she said walking in the place. She told the girl two and was seated near the door. Jessica herself han no one to call. Having left behind her folks, she had no one other then her partner.
She kept her life quiet. A few friends but not a single one she really confided in. It was a sad life Jess new but it was what she had. She kept people at arms length, alway scared to actually get involved. Mark was the only one she'd let in. Let him see past the tough chick persona.
She sat looking over the menu. Jess ordered some hot tea and said she would wait for her partner before getting anything else. She hoped things were alright with his kids. The were nice, she had meet them a few times. Felt bad that they didn't have there mom anymore. She what it felt like losing them so to speak. Mike was a good guy though, they'd be ok.
Mike
"And do what Gina and Sarah tell you. You're a good kid Tommy." Mike smile as his youngest child hangs on the phone. Gina and Tommy, his two reasons to hang on to this rotten world. Gina was thirteen years old now and Tommy eight. They seemed to get along well but Mike knew that his son was tired of Gina's overprotection. Mike was thankful for their neighbour Sarah McKenzie. She was nineteen years old and loved to babysit his children for a small payment.
Mike brush the sleep out of his eyes before he exits the vehicle to join his partner in the restaurant. He spots her immediately and smiles at her lonely form at a table in the back. When he first got her as a partner he was doubtful she would be a good cop. She looked as if she just stepped out from a photo shoot in the vogue or something. So very fragile and looked like she needed protection. Now he knew that the look was deceiving. She was tough as nails. Sometimes he saw that she was not as tough as she tried to be though. The occations was rare and she seemed embarassed of letting him see a side she obviously did not like to admit. Mike liked the sweet Jessica he saw from time to time and tried to lure it out as much as he could. Some of their police companions thought that he was in love with her. Why would he defend her so hard against their jokes otherwise. To himself Mike could admit that there was some truth to their claims. He was attractive to her but his friends was wrong about one thing. They thought he tried to get in her pants. That was not at Mike's agenda. If something happened between them it was just fine. Mike was just trying to get her out of her shell. As hard as it was.
Mike sat down opposite to Jessica with a smile. "Seems i just disturbed them. They where obviously busy looking on the telly." He grins at her. "I think i have some chicken and fried rice." He says reading from the menu before he looks up. "And a cup of coffee."
"Just some egg drop soup for me," Jess told the girl. "Kids are good then Mike?"
Jessica always seemed to let her guard down with him. She had heard the rumors that swirled around the station. Mike wanting to get into her pants and all. Nothing was farther from the truth. Jess always had a small thing for him but never acted on it. She had no idea if he felt the same way. Hoped maybe he did but never knew so she didn't make a move. If it was gonna happen it would she guessed. If not she wouldn't look like a fool for trying right.
Mike
"They are just fine. Bored but fine." Mike smiles at Jessica and sips the coffee the young girl places in front of him. It is hot, just as he likes it. He looks over the table at his partner. "I heard that Josh Beckett from the 31'st district asked you out for a date." He grins at the surprise in her face. "Rumors travel fast you know." He takes another sip. "He seem like a nice guy."
Mike is always amused about the ways Jessica seem to avoid talking about her personal life and is never tired of trying to find out more about her.
"Yeah he did. Told him no though. I don't know, maybe I should have said yes. Hell I have been on a date in forever. Probably wouldn't know how to act," Jess said knowing she was right, she should have gone. Would be a good change for her.
Spending to much time on cases then on her life was not good. Even the chief had made some smart ass comment. Oh well, too late now. She had told the guy no, couldn't call him up and say 'hey look, changed my mind still wanna go out'. Wasn't her style. She didn't exactly have one come to think of it.
Mike nods. He himself hadn't had a date for a couple of weeks now. Not that the dates he had been to led to anything anyway. He just got bored with the women he asked out. It was not easy being single. He missed the married life almost as much as he missed his dead wife.
"It's not easy dating i know." He says with a smile. "I haven't had a successfull date in a very long time." He takes a sip of the coffee. "Cheers for love." He says mockingly as he jokingly raises his mug.
"Yeah for love, hell to be lucky enough to find it," she said with a smile. Jess had no idea what love was her family hadn't been to loving. Her first boyfriend had only used her to have sex. So Jess struck out in that area. She had known Mike had been in love, his wife had been his world. What would that be like Jess wondered.
"So ummm, Mike where dso you thing we should start? Tell Anthony or what. Maybe he knows something, who would want to do that to Vince? Anythings beats what we have."
Jess looked down infront of her. Her chinese horoscope standing out. She was a horse, curious she read it. How right it was, she pushed. Pushed people away, pushed herself to better. Funny she never believe in this stuff before. It all seemed do fake, so hookie.
